I don't know if this has been asked before, but I need a helmet and I already have a nice headset (lightspeed). So can you use non-comtronics headset with the comtronics helmet or should I plan on just buying the full comtronics setup?
Thanks,
Rick Niles.

I have lots of headsets for the FW, so I was in the same boat. I bought the Comtronics helmet without their headset. So far, every one of my headsets has worked out fine.
I did buy the full face helmet for winter use that has the built-in mike and phones. It works, but I have to say that even my lowest-end FW headset outperforms the setup in the full-face Comtronics headset. It doesn't seal very well around the ears, and you end up hearing a lot more noise than you should. I have tried bending the headphone supports (wire springs), and that helps for one or two uses, but they always revert back to "loose" when you pull your head out of the thing. If I continue the practice of bending for better seal, I may break the support wires after a time. :noidea:
You cannot use a standard headphone set with the full-face helmet. I also have to say, though it is a warmer option, you really have lousey visibility out of the Comtronics full-face helmet. Visibility down is OK, left to right is marginal, but up is terrible.

I use the comtronics shell-helmet with Telex Echelon headsets (white).
