This is always a great fly-in. The Arkansas rotorheads will be there, all the Louisiana and Mississippi boys'll be there.

You guys from East Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia should plan to join us in Bastrop for this annual fly-in.

It'll be a blast. We hope to see you there.

Chuck,
Monroe Regional is a TRSA. I think the tower is in operation 7 days a week until late at night. I'll have to check the airport directory.

All of the EAA flyinns that I attended were pretty much: fly there, park, talk & fly out. With only a few of us with radios, we could fly there as a group. I'll phone the tower & talk to the supervisor to see if he would allow that.

Mike Gaspard has to work that weekend, so he can't make it. I'm hoping the rest of the guys from his area can attend.

I hate to hear that GyroMike can't be there. Is there no way he can get off. I know he will if he can. We'd sure like for you to be there if at all possible, Mike, with both of your machines.

How about Mike Morgan? You are planning to be there, aren't you, Mike. We would really like to see you there with both of your machines also.

Let's see, there's Rod Reed, Jeff Brevelle, the Sharkey brothers, Hilton Myers, Bill Weiger, Hubert Cavalier, Joe Coon, Bill Brakefield, Jim Brown, Mark Carmouche, Manual Mayeaux, Bill Wiese, Gary Hall, Richard Kennedy. I'm sure there are several others that I can't think of right now. However, I know it'll be a good fly-in. It always is!

Anyone else who can come, please do. You'll really enjoy it.

Chuck,

I'd love to go to the flyin but I've got a full schedule. Got one son playing football 6 days a week, and another playing soccer. Saturdays are a mad house. I can't even make the local PRA chapter gyro gathering for the next few months.

Would love to see everyone's gyro's though... hey, take pics...

Toby, I understand. There'll be one at Marksville, probably in November. Plan on going to it. It'll be a lot closer, also. We'd all like to meet you and do some flying with you.

If the weather looks good I will probably be there. Not sure how I could get both of my gyros there, Chuck. It's 250+ miles from here.

Chuck Irby

Hey Mike, just bring one machine then. What's 250 miles up beside going to BD's. That was over 800. :D It's about 210 from here to Bastrop.

Mike, try to get the other guys from your area to go up also. We're hoping that Mike Gaspard can get off and be there too.

Some of us, and some of the Arkansas boys will be there on Friday and would really like for all the guys from your area to be there on Friday also. We will probably fly down to the EAA get-to-gether in Monroe as well.

We hope to see you all there.

Mark "Friendly" Carmouche, I am sorry I over looked you in my list above. I'm sure there are others too. Please forgive me.

I'm looking forward to meeting and doing some flying with you at Bastrop. Can you be there on Friday? If so, let me know when, and I'll make sure to be there at the same time.

Chuck , I will be there God Willing, I won't be bringing my custom gyro, but I will bring the kB-2. I bought it at Bastrop and saw it fly there. We have several new people intrested in attending here in Cenla, and Ed in New Orleans. The Bastorp flyin has always been great. I got a lot of glider time in at the fly in haha. See you there and hope to bring some newcomers as well.

Our sport "gyros" is in a better position than ever before to grow. The hunting and fishing is not what it used to be with the leases and other expenses. Who wants to be on a motocycle going down the road with someone on a cell phone coming from the other direction. A gyro is still the most affordable way for someone to do sport flying in a real aircraft and it still has the abilty of a Harley... that is to make it yours with so many different options, paint schemes, engines, etc. Gyros are still the best BANG for the BUCK!!!!!

Mark,
Have you been using the Pollock airport for training?
Peanut & I have been talking about going there for a chapter event next year. Last I heard, the airport was shut down.

Where is that airport, Rudy?

We need to get Hilton Myers to host a fly-in at his airport in Magnolia, MS. What do ya'll think?

Are ya'll planning to be there on Friday? If so, what time?

Chuck,
Pollock is just north of Alexandria, LA. We had an event there a long time ago, before I had a gyroplane.

It would be great for either Hilton or yourself to host one in Mississippi. I'm sure most folks would attend, since you are located close to the Louisiana border.

I'm still waiting to hear from Peanut, I don't know if he could get off work on Friday. If not we may leave Friday after 5pm & arrive after dark. He is a member of the ground crew, so he likes to travel with me.

Have you talked to Richard or Gary lately? I was wondering if they got in touch with Virgil. He would likely fly over in his J2.

Rudy. I'm really not very close to the LA border. I'm North East of Laurel, only about 35 miles, as the crow flies, from Abalama (hehehey, as Heron would say). That's the reason I mentioned Hilton. He's a lot closer to you guys there in South LA.

Maybe you could light a fire under Peanut to get off work on Friday. Two days just isn't long enough. Richard and I will be there on Friday for sure. He also has a radio in his machine.

I've been in contact with Richard, but he'll have to reply to your question.

Yes the Pollock airport is open, I have used it for taxing , till I lost a coil on my Mac. Then I went hog wild and bought a few gyros. The air port is next to the Fed. Pollock prision. When someone flys over the prison the Airport Manager hears about it and then there is trouble. I believe if we exercised restraint about flying around the prison we could get into the airport. It is still open but they have kept it quiet for that reason. It was federal money spent on the maintainence so I suppose they would have to let us use it. I would rather be asked to come in than force a door open. I use the two closed runways for taxieing so nobody gives me much thought.

Chuck, I don't know about Friday, I may up on Friday afterwork or Saturday Morning and spend the day. Friday ideal is really growing on me. It depends a lot on how my work goes., I have a 40 hr training requirement that week. If I close out this month in good shape I should have no trouble. Awhaaa what the heck, plan on me being there Friday about 8 pm. Cell number 318-308-2400 if you need to reach me.

Mark, unless you can be there early enough to get in some flying, I see no real reason for you to bust your butt to get there on Friday. However, some of us will be there on Friday and you are more than welcome to show up any time. Just let us know once you decide for sure.

Very good job, Mike. Thanks a lot.

Isn't there some way you can get off work so you can be at the fly-in?
