No one hurt. I feel for the pilot. Looks like it was a very nice new machine.

Sad to see such a beautiful machine destroyed, lucky nobody was hurt, did you see where he first said he was alone and then admitted he did have a passenger, he was not licensed for a passenger, what does that do to his licence?

At least no one was hurt. I'm thankful for that.

what does that do to his licence?

I suspect he has a suspension or revocation in his future.

"Not licensed to carry a passenger" means he had only a student license at most. He may be facing worse than revocation of that student license -- he could have an extremely hard time getting a Private, having already shown the FAA that he pays no attention to the regs.

... I feel for the pilot.

From reading just the newpaper report, I for one have zero sympathy for the individual ..

"According to detectives at the scene, the pilot says he didn't realize the winds had shifted and he couldn't get enough lift.
Investigators say the pilot originally told them that he was the only person in the helicopter when it went down. But he later changed his story and admitted to detectives that he did have a passenger onboard."

He couldn't get "enough lift."? That's a hell of an excuse for pilot incompetency! If the newpaper reporting is correct, it seems to me that guy never should have been allowed to solo!

A waste of what was perhaps a nice, almost new machine? I agree.

Brantlys are under power when it comes to two people. Does anyone no the N# or who's ship it was?

The latest NTSB report for a Brantly accident was Nov. 17 in Washington. This one (three days later) should show up soon.

You can check from time to time here:

One thing I have learned from my own accident and the accidents of others in my club, is that the press rarely gets details correct.

Even if he was properly quoted, I still feel for him. That does NOT mean I condone illegal operations or poor judgement.

I suspect the Brantly involved in this incident is a 1963 B-24 N21804 registered to Inverted US, Edgewater, Florida.

Everyone makes mistakes. Sometimes they are expensive and sometimes they are not.

Not playing by the rules escalated the cost.

I am glad no one was injured. There was great potential for injury.

Thank you, Vance
