Does anyone have a Sporty's Transceiver cigarette lighter power adapter/nicad battery charger #8634A? Is there anything special about this adapter? I mean, is the voltage and amperage regulated? It looks like the Nicad battery pack is rated at 9.6v @ 600mAH. I would like to hard wire this radio and also charge the batteries while the engine is running.
thanks....albert

I have one. It looks like it might have a simple, single-chip current-limiting circuit. I am basing that "guess" on the size and shape of the plug and the fact it would "have to" IMO. If I can get it apart without destroying it, I'll verify that claim.

Radio Shack used to have a book called "Engineer's Notebook" that had a schematic for such a device using about $3.00 in components. I would imagine someone here or elsewhere online would have one.

Albert, I just bought the SP-200. I held off on the nicad initially. The brochure stated that you can charge the batteries while running the radio off the lighter connection. If you find an alternative charger let us know, I'm looking as well.
