Sorry - a bit offtop for gyro forum (though about gyros anyway :) :

Local fixed wing pilot asked me to find which attitude gyro he can install on his flying boat. As I understand some gyros should be caged during an airplane is on the ground, straight and level, and some may be caged in flight, straight and level. Since his flying boat rests on water with one wing above, which gyro will work for his aircraft? Are there any conventional gyros which may be caged in such position or in flight?

Thanks in advance,

Most attitude gyros can be caged,Usually for aerobatics or to reset them if they topple. It doesn't matter what position they are at rest. when they spin up an erection mechanism precesses them to the upright position and they will read a correct horizon
