I have one of Tom's seat tanks on the DesertBee. The sample drawings indicated "bending" the "U-frame", but aircraft aluminum tubing would rather break at the holes instead of bending. So on the second frame, I made some wedge shaped saddles to fit between the tube frame and the angle stock fastened to the seat diagonals. You could use a two piece arrangement, a regular saddle and a wedge under it. Notice there is a matching "reversed" wedge under the angle so that the bolt has a flat surface (doesn't try to bend the bolt)

I always use "U" brackets. They fit any angle within reason.

You can get aluminum saddles from Bear Perkins: http://www.bearperkins.com/accessories.htm

While you're at it pick up a fuel floatee to go in your sight tube.

Tom Milton, I have a question for you on the back of the tank where the 2---3/16 bolts are you need some type of spacer to keep the seat from rubbing a hole in it!

What would you use?

I changed the 3/16 washers out and put 3/16 fender washers to cover more area.

Jany77 Starbee used the same thing that you put on the struts the U clamps so to call it.

The seat back attachment is always a problem area.

Most folks don't attach it at all.

I like a block of rubber with a notch cut out for the mast (enough to allow wiggle room) and no direct connection.

The problem is that there is relative motion between the seat tank and the mast. Any attempt to make this area rigid will result in something wearing out or breaking off.

A workable mount might be a 3/16' bolt passing through a fender washer, then through the bracket (with a 3/8" hole for the 3/16" bolt) then a small stack of fender washers between the bracket and the seat tank.
Safety wire or Locktite the bolts in place. Security and wiggle room.

Tom I need to make a throttle mount, will it weaken the seat frame to much to drill 2 - 3/16 bolt holes in it on the side ?

I used rubber tap washers for the seatback attachment. Attaches but allows forsome movement.
