I have installed a CLT kit on my AC and now I'm about ready to mount a Rotax 618.

I have heard that disengaging the oil injection and using premixed gas is the way to go. What do you think?

I have a 60" WD prop and don't have the funds to by a larger prop right now. If I put more pitch in the prop say around 20 degrees or so would this be OK for flying until I can get a larger prop?

I also plan on putting a tall tail on it and extending the mast to accommodate the larger prop when that time comes. Can I add to the mast I have the same way a folding mast is made to keep from buying a whole new mast?

I also have 23' Macutchen (spelling) rotor blades, will I need longer blades?

Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Thanks, Phil

Phil,

The centerline thrust change should improve your gyro a lot.

You should keep the oil injection system. I have read a lot that says that it is much better for the engine than using premixed fuel.

Set your blade pitch so the engine will not turn faster than the engine red line rpm (6800 or whatever it is for a 618). It will need more pitch with the 60" prop than with a larger diameter prop.

You can raise the mast as far as you want without adversly affecting the the flight performance.

The 23' rotor blades need not change unless you have added a lot of weight. The blade diameter is based on the gryo's flying weight. See:

Thanks for the opinions guys, no dought about it the CLT will improve the gyro.

Glad to here about keeping the oil injection, I fellow told me his injection didn't work so well and heard others didn't also so he closed it off and pre-mixed.

I was looking forward to cross country and didn't want to mix gas, just want to land refuel and go again.

As far as the prop, it shouldn't be on there too long anyway. I just want to make sure I have this machine running again before Bensen Days. Not gonna sit and just watch another fly-in.

Thanks again, Phil
