I have a RAF type muffler on my EJ-22 and I would like to eventually utilize the carb-heat feature.
I noticed this RAF had a inlet for hot air and I think it was a Subaru Air filter housing.
Can anyone ID the make and model car this came out of?
Can anyone make a recommendation as to how to bring the carb heat into the carb on my EJ-22?

Tim, that's an RAF air-filter housing, even though it says Subaru on it. The flange underneath the "nose," where the air enters is the inlet for warmed air. A tube hooks to the muffler somewhere and the cable-actuated flap let's the hot air in when you need it. Those are the only details I can recall, as I got rid of mine a long time ago.

Ken,
What did you replace it with? Do you have carb heat?

TIM:
Is that a picture of your engine? Let me know what you have available, I think I can help you out.
Cheers. :)

Tim, I went to an Airflow Performance FI setup, so I don't have carb-heat anymore. I recall that a lot of the RAF mufflers fall apart...mine did. They're made of mild steel. The baffles inside break off and you wind up getting a steady flow of exhaust fumes into your carb. I got rid of mine a long time ago also. Paul B. may be able to go into more detail on this.

Akchewely, I replaced my mufflers with Trapps while I still had the carb. Here's a photo of my new headers. The box you see is for carb heat. There's a hose flange on the front of it that you can't see. I barely used it, as I got the FI shortly after. The photo is with the Trapps still not installed.

Thanks Ken, should I soak the inside of my muffler with an anti-rusting compound?
Harry, No not my machine, that is an RAF that visited the club hanger. I have a generic pep-boys airfilter right now. Looking for some way to get carb heat.

No, Tim. You should soak that muffler in the Ohio River during flood season with a cinder-block chained to it. Let it sleep with the fishes. The outer welds will usually start cracking sooner than later also. After several trips to the welding shop, most give up and go to something else.

Tim:
I re-read your original post. I didn't catch your line in ref. to the pic being of an RAF.
Maybe you can obtain an RAF-Subaru filter housing on the Wanted thread. I would imagine a few guys have converted to FI and have no need of it anymore. Or, you can buy one from RAF. This was not a part of the original kit, so I bought one, when it came out as a new item.
Does your RAF muffler have 3 pipes on it...1 inlet and 2 outlets? That's the old style. The newer one is smaller and has just an exhaust port, which is used on the FI engines. For Carb engines, it comes with a removable muff that accomodates a hose for carb heat.

Harry,
Thanks! Yes, I have the old style.
I will look into placing a Want ad, that is good advice.
Unfortunately, Last night at the hanger I discovered a tragic and significant problem with my gyro that may take some time and money to repair. I will post details once I have a grip on it ( and my emotions ). This will be a potential major setback that could leave any hoped for upgrades ( like carb heat, better ignition and the like) unreachable until next season.
