View Full Version : Igor Bensen
Are any of you owners of Bensens familiar with or know about the submission he made to the US Army regarding a "flying jeep"? The machine had an "N" number, followed by four digits but I don't remember these.
Caught a quick glimpse of of JPG or GIF of it on a web page about two weeks ago while doing some reserach but I stupidly failed to make note of the site's address.

Hey Ted --
It's the B-10 Propcopter. To spare you the Google I did, here's a couple links, one with a picture:
http://www.aviastar.org/helicopters_eng/bensen_b-10.php
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bensen_B-10
Reading between the lines, I get, "failure." Not many of Dr B's many many ideas were as brilliant as the original gyroglider and gyrocopter.
I see you're in PA... are you related to Jim Barr of Barr Six fame? Nice guy. But he had the most abominable luck....
cheers

That's the one! As I understand it the machine was submitted along with several others from competitors and unlike the VZ-1 and others, Bensen's machine was promptly returned as not worthy of further investigation.
As for Barr of "Barr Six fame" I've never heard of him until now.
Thanks for the comeback. It's appreciated.
