Great weekend for me...

Met up with a bunch of friends yesterday in Shelby NC and rode over 200 miles on the motorcycle on some great twisty roads in the mountains.

Today went out to the airport and flew my Titan Tornado to another airport for a Hamburger lunch.

Then visited with Tim Moses to check out his rotorblades he recently purchased used and in not as advertised condition ( but they still appear to be flyable so that is good )

Then went home and hitched up the boat and jet ski and headed down to the lake to get cooled off ( it was in the lower 90's today and muggy )

Pleasant surprise on the way to the lake, the gas station closest to the boat ramp still had 3.61$ a gallon advertised when virtually everyone else around here was at 3.99-4.59$ after the price jump on Friday, and most stations were sold out. Stopped in and the price was real and they had gas! Didn't need much but topped off the tank, they had a sign asking us to limit purchases to 10 gallons.... Went inside and told the clerk that I will try to always buy my gas from them from now on, that they are honorable for not screwing us like all the other stations. This is a fancy Texaco station too, not a small hole in the wall place.

Anyway, my day started at the airport, hear something flying by as I was in the hangar preflighting my plane. Knew the sound, it had to be Barry Thigpen coming by, he was headed to that hamburger lunch too. He buzzed us, and dam his plane is fast! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJcPKjQG02s

Best viewed by clicking on high quality and watching it that way.... Can you count how many times his plane rolls as he buzzed by?

Hi Ron,

great videos. Those other airplanes visiting you in the air had trouble slowing down to your speed, by the looks.

Regarding the barrel rolls, is the Titan Tornado certified for aerobatics?
I would feel a bit uncomfortabel if not.

Kai.

Yeah, I was busting along at 100 knots - about 115 mph - and that is pretty slow for that Black plane. Yes the Titan is approved for up to 6 G's positive loading. But I only pulled 2.5 G's and barely got into the yellow Arc on the airspeed indicator coming out of the roll, most any plane should be able to do a barrel roll

Yeah, ... most any plane should be able to do a barrel roll Structurely, yes...legally, no.

Some related FARs:

§ 91.307 Parachutes and parachuting.

...

(c) Unless each occupant of the aircraft is wearing an approved parachute, no pilot of a civil aircraft carrying any person (other than a crewmember) may execute any intentional maneuver that exceeds—

(1) A bank of 60 degrees relative to the horizon; or

(2) A nose-up or nose-down attitude of 30 degrees relative to the horizon.

---------------------------

§ 91.303 Aerobatic flight.

No person may operate an aircraft in aerobatic flight—

(a) Over any congested area of a city, town, or settlement;

(b) Over an open air assembly of persons;

(c) Within the lateral boundaries of the surface areas of Class B, Class C, Class D, or Class E airspace designated for an airport;

(d) Within 4 nautical miles of the center line of any Federal airway;

(e) Below an altitude of 1,500 feet above the surface; or

(f) When flight visibility is less than 3 statute miles.

For the purposes of this section, aerobatic flight means an intentional maneuver involving an abrupt change in an aircraft's attitude, an abnormal attitude, or abnormal acceleration, not necessary for normal flight.
