I was getting ready for the El Mirage flyin today and I had to replace the leading edge tape on my ivo prop, call 911, not really, but my hands are still bleeding. That SS tape is a bitch.

After flying at Nichols field, my prop had some rock chips that needed fixing.

Ivo sold me the leading edge tape for $4 a piece. $20 after shipping was all good.

Getting the old tape off was a b!t^h, be careful, the tape is like razorblades.

I haven't put the new tape on yet, but from the video on utube it looks straight forward, not rocket science. I'll let you know

here is a video of how to do it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnBtqs4Pj-8

Dave, I have replaced mine twice now and am glad to hear I am not the only one who found it sharp. The second trip leaves less wounds and a little more respect.

I have started using aluminum tape, it lays down better, has to be replaced more often, but much easier to do.

Do you have to take the blades off or can you change the tape with the blades mounted?

Finally got it done today, here is a pic. Not hard to put on, but my hands still have little cuts

Chris- not sure, but it might be easier to leave them on. I took mine of because the time I get at the airport is limited, and I have some time at home.

Yes you can do it when mounted. not hard at all, just be sure to remove ALL the old adhesive before putting the tape on. If it helps. i have made reference marks on the tape to get it lined up and centered on the prop blade.
mark the center of the tape and apply tape to the flat side of the blade lining up you center marks with the leading edge of the blade. Then use a plastic squeegee to push the tape around the leading edge and gradually work it down with the squeegee so you do not get air bubbles or wrinkles.

Nice video. I used a needle nose as you can roll the tape around the pliers and pull off larger areas. I spent more time cleaning off the old gum with MEK than pulling off the tape.
