XCOM 760 vhf radio

if so what would you buy it.

The reviews on the mfg's website are somewhat missing in
the kind of, wow you have to buy this radio, in fact the reviews
are rather harsh with various early build problems that prob lost
customers as expensive defects were shipped out. But that was
years ago.

The nice thing about this radio is that it can be configured in many
different ways with a second remote head for tandem seating and
other neat features.

Looking at the prices of avionics has be sticker shocked...

Well Jonathan,

I'm putting one in my seaplane because I liked the advertised features and size was a big factor. I hope it lives up to all the claims. I'll let you know one way or the other.

Thanks.

Looks like a nice radio, pricy but many features.

My Xenon came with this radio. It is basically a good radio. However the full-digital components present a challenge.

The digital circuitry has limited thresholds -- which means your levels have to be set precisely or you will get "clipping" on both ends of the spectrum.

In other words, if the receiver level is set too high or too low, it'll crackle and cut out when someone talks to you ... which then renders the intercom useless. And if the intercom level is not set right -- that will crackle and cut out.

In conclusion ... you must get a proper balance to keep communications (whether on the radio or intercom) within acceptable thresholds to avoid this clipping.
