Hopefully I have your attention.
As most of you know John (ALL IN) has been determined to spearhead some changes that will address the two biggest concerns for PRA
Why its practically invisible to all but the party faithful
and
How to get its revenues increased.
Skipping the how why where and what for of the polemic.... its time to put up or shut up.
I have volunteered to help with some new articles and areas of interest for all of us. I cannot do this alone. I need specific suggestions and moreover - material to forward to be included.
It would be easiest to just grab some things right from the forum but most of us have read that stuff already (but if there is something really compelling in a particular post the direct me to it please!).
Other things might include:
Technical Tips and Timesavers (think hints from Heloise).
Near Misses (how a bad situation got saved).
Member Profile: who deserves to be "Profiled" (I can call them and do an interview or you can write about them and send it to me). Not just because they are cool or a great pilot but maybe they have another interesting story or side.
Pilots Tales section this would be a photo galley section like Tim, Vance, and others are posting now.
Pilots Debrief: Where were post answers to question that Chuck, Udi, Doug, and others teaching us so much. This is also were we will analyze gyro crashes or rebuilds from same.
Cutting Edge industry news releases and photos.
Gossip and human interest stories.
My stupidest Mistake
Dream Trip (the gyro trip of your dreams)
How to: How not To!
Etc
We need to start amassing a backlog of material for inclusion in the magazine going forward.
I can be privately email at r5son@yahoo.com (that way it doesnt just show up on the Forum and already be read).
There are a lot of guys and girls out there who have something to say... suggest or contribute.
This is for all our benefit.
The plan is to make our magazine as interesting, colorful and anticipated as the best there is anywhere in GA.
We all know that rotorcraft (to my mind gyros in particular) are the best kept secret and most interesting and unique of the flying machines. Its time to not only spread the word but to upgrade our magazine to one that is really really fun to read.
Ok so now you know the drill. Start bombing me with ideas and lets get the job done.
John, me and a few others are already on board and ready to do the heavy lifting.... we need your help.
Thanks in advance :usa2:

Even if something has been posted here on the forum I think it would still be good to put in the PRA mag. A lot of PRA members do not visit the forum and that stuff would be new to them.

I agree with Tim as we can re-write it into a story and have the author add to it maybe? Also I have some entertainments pages like PRA-TV that should bring many new folks that don't visit here.
But way to go Rob!!! Man we got some great guys on the team!!! Real doers, I like it!
And very creative!
I blink and you are on it!!!
Way to just do it Rob!!!
PS:
Actually it's not determination it just a broken power controller, so I'm always ALL In or All on or asleep there is no middle ground with me on anything I do. I think it's a mental problem I'm almost sure it is.

I will contribute when I can but my life is kinda boring, For a living I Repossess Cars, Motor homes, Harley's etc. For sport I race up curvy winding dirt mountain roads at +100mph lined with trees and cliffs and no guardrails. for a hobbie I like to make things fly that shouldn't... like Snowmobiles, and for relaxation I love flying my open frame gyro. If anything interesting comes my way I will let you know.
Thank you guys for your efforts.

Your goal is to increase intrest in and gather new people to the sport of gyro's and to build our population in the flying comunity?

Your goal is to increase intrest in and gather new people to the sport of gyro's and to build our population in the flying comunity?Hi Phil!
Yes the overall goal is to help PRA achieve this.
However one step at a time. This request is to start adding content to PRA's magazine and it's new online magazine. Specifically it designed to increase circulation and the value of PRA ads.
We are going to increase the magazine profitability with these requested links that interest members here!
This is step one, in the BOD's plan to solicit advertising space on a commercial level and then use the profit form the magazine to reduce our membership fee while providing better services to all.

I guess I'm still confused (which is easy for me) with your plan...
How is adding to a mag. that is only delivered to PRA members going to increase public awareness? Kinda like preaching to the Choir.....
And a couple of the topic listed earlier.
Near Misses
My Stupidest Mistake
Doesn't seem like something that would grab hold and entice anybody I know to flying a gyro.
Seems to me you need get the word out to the general public.
The non flyers.... that wanna be's.. or have thought about's...
Maybe take up donations to runs adds in other flying mag. that direct their readers to the PRA web site or this forum.
Have tags made for cars or something that everyday folk will see.
Anyway, I have a plan I'm working on that will put gyros in front of over 20,000 people in the near future. All general public and I believe it will spark a lot of interest in gyros. As soon as it's confirmed I let you know.

The idea is that the magazine will undergo a metamorphosis and there will be an online version.

Phil, I think what they're trying to do is compile a list of links to article's or posts here and elsewhere that are good enough for inclusion into the PRA magazine or an online magazine. There is so much BS on the forum someone new might not be able to find the pearls here for all the chaff. I'm at least as guilty as the next guy for it being here...

Hi guys
Yes Phil as Rob has said an online magazine is coming if it lives up to our and the BOD expectations. We must collect and edit at least 6 months worth of articles in advance of publishing our first issue in order to assure continuity in a magazine.
Part of the online magazine will be available to the public just like PRA-TV is today as well as all of our advertisers ads! PRA-TV has already increase circulation of our advertisers ads by 20000+ viewings but all could be by one person. See http://usedjewelry.net/pra_tv.asp for prototype!
The online magazine will be great for PRA members as they can see it all and non-PRA members can get a taste of the articles. Want to read the rest buy the magazine.
This has already increased the circulations of at least our advertisers while promoting rotorcraft at the same time and we suspect drawing new members to join PRA and flying rotorcraft already or old members to rejoin at least we don’t really know yet, but will.

I wish we had more gyro t-shirts available.I bet that can happen very soon.
Guys I can't tell you all the exciting things this BOD is really trying!!!! It's not my place I'm just a worker bee!
The BOD will announce some of it very soon. It's not the BOD fault it takes a lot of time just to evaluate the proper order to implement then all!!
They have few volunteers to get it all written up so they can just announce real approved plans to give the members just about everything they have asked for.
The magazine and expanded online presents and new attractions and more exposure of our events has a real chance for the magazine to become a money maker for PRA too!
PS:
Have I mentioned this BOD rocks and so do our volunteers that are actually making this happen! Many are the BOD too doing the heavy lifting and clearing the way.
Come join us in doing something fun that will make some difference.
Be part of the solution!
All are welcome!!!
Can't help right now that's OK you can still help if your not a member Join PRA today!

When visiting the EAA site I saw that in their videos section they had a number of videos available for non members to watch. They were very interesting and informative.
I am taking it that this online mag would have stuff available as 'teasers' or examples of what sort of things are available in the Magazine which presumably members log on to read/download items info and articles.
It sounds as though this would be a concentrated area of info and interest that would contain items collected from this forum and others like it for PRA members to use.
How-to videos would certainly be of use to us all. The EAA ones are certainly very well produced and a real inspiration and example of what can be done to help is in the gyro world.

Yes, Yes, and Yes.
The full hard copy magazine will be available only to members except for teasers. These new sections were adding will be available to all!
The How-to videos will take awhile but we are going to cheat and at first solely dub a sound track on exciting flying videos and add Greg's "Why Rotors instead of wings" etc. so they are learning while they entertain themselves and at least have links to AROPA's and EEA's videos. Then we will see about making some rotorcraft specific videos of our own.

Am I right in thinking that the online mag will be on the members only side of the web site with 'teasers' on the public side as an inducement to join the PRA?
I don't know which category this fits in other than the 'Tech Tips and Timesaver' but I would suggest that there is info in the old PRA mags from the very beginning that show 'How To' and other interesting info like component testing. That info is as valid now as it was in the '60s.
I understand that this info will be available on line once the old mags are scanned but it may help to extract the 'How To' info and highlight it in one place for builders. If it is decided that this will be done then the people scanning the mags should take note when they run accross an item that belongs in this category so it can be easily found again. Extracting the theory stuff (the majority from C. Beaty) and putting it in one place might also have value.
Also, I would suggest that PRA members do like the EAA has done and start videoing construction techiniques where ever possible and placing them in the online mag or on the new web site someplace. It would be nice and helpful if the EAA would see fit to let us use their 'Tips for Homebuilders' videos from their web site to help in this regard. But in lieu of that I'm suggesting we start our own videos.

What would I do without you Dean, it's like having a personal historian on the PRA. I had no idea.
Another great idea, I'll run it by the board and see if we can get it approval.

There are a huge selection of 'How To' videos on Youtube on every subject you can think of. Now is our chance to have some gyro ones.
I hope to be getting my helmet video shortly and will see what we can do on, say trying to pitch our prop for optimum revs on the 503, or... 'How Not To' do a hang test and set up a rotor head on the cheek plates... this video helped at the accident inquiry.
The mind boggles at the possibilities
Hmmm, I am thinking this could turn into how to make a laughing stock of myself in the gyro community real fast. For a start the gyros name is already a bit suspect.:o

Guys... the idea of how-to's is a really really great and helpful one. Its very easy to do also. Anything from a simple camera locked in place and watching, to full coverage. The important thing is anything can be good. Proven how-to expertise is to be shared.... please.
Whether its a complete build to a tip on any aspect of preflite. All will be hungrily consumed by all with no doubt.
Just point a camera at yourself and what you are doing, start talking about what it is you are doing, how and why - and dont turn it off until your done. Then let us know and well get it uploaded.
Imagine a world where gyronuts can select any of a myriad of how to informative and fun to watch video clips..... and really learn and spread the good news!

John I wanted to say how great it was to finally meet you! Throwing the eggs at Stan was particularly fun.
I love this sport and want to contribute. I am constantly trying to get new people into the sport.
Keep me informed on how to help. I have been working on a couple of ideas lately that will either turn into magazine submissions or projects of their own.
Forward motion is always better than stagnation. Let me know if there is anything I can help with.
Fiveboy, I got to meet almost everyone from this forum that I really wanted to meet while at Mentone. Do I need to come to Panama to meet you or are you going to ever make it to an event? Comments from our CFI and your presence on the forum lead me to think that you will contribute a lot to this idea.

Yaw Mon, I really enjoyed you two, you just go together!!!
We really need articles you see sent to Rob (fiveson) our Coordinating Editor. Then he will acquire written permission from the author(s) and edit them into more of a story if needed.
There are some old accident report that have been posted here that are very helpful in understanding what not to do. I haven't had the time to search for them.
If you could look for those and new developments in technology like engines, blades, aircraft, etc. that would really help.
We would like to have 6 months of articles before we publish as a buffer.
