Got some advice from Greg Gremminger today and a heads up of our needs.

We really need proactive people for Coordinator/EDITORS and DEPARTMENT HEADS. The positions will be formal assignments from PRA Board, but not paid jobs = purely voluntary. These Coordinator/Editors should be responsible for soliciting or writing regular articles in the mag and for keeping content in those sections of the website current. Department Heads will need various knowledge particular to that department and many more will be announced in the future as we bring PRA on-line and into the future.

Come one cone all lets have a ball! I’m wearing my official PRA Volunteer Coordinator Hat with this post! PRA can only be what we make it into starting today, with your help we can get better everyday in every way.

We cannot grow (and attract more high flying women therefore) unless you guys and gals young and old will put your valuable time where our mouth has been for years now! I going to try as hard as I can to give the members what they want, and a party while were at it.

We need people like Tim Chick who is the Department Head of PRA-TV our searchable video collection of YouTube videos. Tim was an excellent choice as he had the knowledge of YouTube, the pilots, makes, models, etc and is proactive. (And talk about a doer with a great attitude!!!) SOLD:yo: Our own Jim Skelly AKA lspav8r

Looking for people like Tim with knowledge in the following areas:
1) Homebuilder Editor – Edit and summit the members projects. I know a couple of you I’d like for this job even if one is not a PRA member today, I will fix that too for you.SOLD:yo: Our own MickBoyette= Michael Boyette
2) Regulatory and Rules Editor - keep membership informed on FAA (and other country CAA) rules, requirements, procedures, etc. Again there are some smart instructors that always respond to us here.SOLD:yo::hail: Our own "Hognose" Kevin it's just keeps getting better.
3) We need to find a new Chapters Coordinator quickly - Dean Dolph needs to give this up.SOLD:yo::hail: Our own dabkb2= Dave Bacon
4) Volunteer Corner Editor – Greg’s intent with this Volunteer's Coordinator position was this:SOLD:yo::hail: Just Automated with software and PRA Volunteer Coordinator will maintain it.
· Publicly recognize and thank volunteers
· Solicit for other needed volunteers:
o Coordinators (from Job Descriptions)
o Convention volunteers
o Web contributors
o Magazine Article contributors
o Board of Director's candidates
o Any other things we need help with such as web resources, advertiser solicitation, etc.
·
5) As least (1) one volunteer needed also for Tim Chick PRA-TV. Tim is looking for an assistant for when he is away or working on other projects. You would be working with Tim and have access to management software that’s allows us to edit porn etc from our site before it is seen by the public as well as edit the makes, models, and pilots names for assuring accurate data.
6) Canadian Regulatory and Rules Editor - keep membership informed on Canadian rules, requirements, procedures, etc.SOLD:yo::hail: Our own "Hognose" Kevin it's just keeps getting better.

If you wish to become part of the solution and not the problem then I invite you to join a team that is really going to try and make a BIG difference. It might be hard, but it will be worth the effort!!

Come join in the fun, JUST DO IT!!! We got the talk'n part done!

I rant and rave about what needs to be done so I better sign on.... but alas I dont see any single category I could qualify for (other than being willing and having a modicum of mastery of the written word).

So can we expand the areas that the magazine might and readers might find of interest? Human interest stories.... profiles of members.... offbeat aviation facts.... safety tips (concise ones not allegories).... contests.... give aways..... incentives.... a concerted mailing using redily available mailing lists of GA..... lists of upcomings for attendance at other GA events (my gyro fly by idea).... my most scariest experience articles... cartoons.... a more vibrant format, better printing using more vivid blacks and whites (and saturated color)? etc yadda yadda.

I LOVE this community, its diverse, opinionated and passionate.... but lets face it the magazine is a 10 minute read. And who reads it... us! Thats preaching to the choir.

Whenever I attended TV documentary production events there were always lots of free issues of whatever the appropriate magazine was (Kodak, Reel Screen, American Cinematographer) along with ways to sign on for a subscription. W need to put forth our face and say here we are, we exist, come play in our sand box... everyone welcome!

Yes every idea I have ever served up would take money and coordination. The money part is easy.... raise the dues, assign people sole dedicated to expanding public awareness (and if they dont thenfore their a$$).... have bake sales, sponsor ride days, make a calender that anyone would want in their shop... etc etc.

Oh and as far as deleting that porno.... get our link on every porno site that`ll drive the traffic up!

OK that last idea was a throw away because I was sounding like a screeching girly man. :help:

John Ill do anything within my skill set to help out. Just give me an assignment I can do well. Sure Im south of the border but this internet thing works really well!!

John,

I have 2 articles in the works for Rotorcraft.

I can try my hand at making up some animated banner ads for the pra also if you think they would be of use.

Usually if I get no volunteers I just step up and do it myself! But we don't want a dyslexic person as an EDITOR of anything.

We need one of you spelling types and perhaps a team of two editors or more. An instruction type for specific knowledge and an editor. If your one of these please we need YOU!

But please the mag is what we have today we need your help!! or we may be stopped if none of you will help us be all we should be. Without volunteers we die! Please you guys can do this in a couple hours each week! Join our management team and be part of the solution be responsible for saving PRA and the most important aspect of bringing many more women into our lives!! We can do it, but only with all of our help!!!

We are starting with what we have today and we are going to need many more volunteers as PRA's BOD approves the tools and or software so we can really start growing by adding many of the things you have suggested above to the on-line version of the magazine as lease at first.

Rob lets see if I can get the BOD to agree we need another position as you just described it to us. A creative person as an overall content solicitors and coordinator. I'd like you for this new Department Head to implement your ideas = "So can we expand the areas that the magazine readers might find of interest?" You would be perfect for this "Creative Content Provider" job Rob!!! You then can feed it to the proper editor. This would be trial and error shotgun posting and see what receives the most hits, etc.

@Tim
I started with a banner as a place holder on the home page for spacing but soon ran out of room. I've changed it to rotated image ads it takes up less space and if the user clicks on the photo it will take the user to the storeFront to buy that item or display the event information so it's better suited for marketing too.
However we are going to need banners for events and specials etc. So could you make a generic banner background that a database could dynamically feed with the appropriate information for display on pages we do have space for them.

You and I are all ready doing so much I would like to give someone else a chance too. PS: Had to rotate your background of the UFO but it looks awesome, thanks!!

It may be just the 3 of us and the overworked BOD! No wonder we cannot grow, don't blame the BOD look in the mirror guys!!!!
We are PRA!

Dave you're the best!

Ok we will talk about it at the fly-in on Sunday!

You may hate the idea Dave, but I'd like you to take over Dean's roll and run the new autoEmail program and start coordinating Chapters with idea's and information on what is going on inside PRA and find out how we can help them grow and collect idea's there using to grow locally.

The BOD will provide you with the tools and material (You and I may have to create the materials the 1st time) to succeed with the least amount of labor. This is an important PR job and Dean will help us learn the ropes, I'm sure, as he has only been helpful to me.

PS:
Oh and I wish to talk to you about backing up Tim Chick for his vacations with PRA-TV. You know the make and models, don't you Dave?

Hey John,

I was planning to contribute some writing. I am not currently flying gyros or helos though. I am a fixed wing pilot and ground instructor and pretty well informed on US regulations -- I have a general idea of how it's done elsewhere (some places like Australia and France are pretty free, some like England and Germany are pretty strict, some like China and Japan are dang near impossible for the would-be homebuilder).

I'm also pretty attuned to the consumer side of homebuilt aircraft, which is something that gets overlooked too much.

cheers

Wow! That would be unbelievably fortuitous! I'm severely dyslectic and it should be illegal for me to write anything in public!!

We need someone to take Tim Chicks video and put graphic Still shots like Ads and a sound track of Greg's "Why rotors instead of wings", and other instructional dialog that will teach and promote but entertain at the same time.
Members have express an interest in going to car, motorcycle, boat shows, fly-in and everywhere else there are folks who like to really play and hand them out to promote our passion and hopefully sign them up in the local chapter and PRA. We won't know until we try....

The BOD's wants to at least try and turn the magazine into a paying concern that at lease pays for itself.
We are going to starting marketing for new advertisers in a big way once we increase our circulation by placing there hard-copy ads and offer them a new video ad for online display on the boarder of every free content section on the new PRA web-site.
I've seen PRA-TV get 23,000 hits just on a test site. Once we have a new online new content section, library with rotor-craft plans download section, classified ads and storefront to name a few. Our circulation could warrant at least a look and one year of adverting for very little money compared to what the big boys are used to spending.
We hope to pay members a commission for any Ads they bring in so we can help them make money too. A win win.
But even an introduction would help and we also accept donation in cash or if they make a product that we could raffle off, or anything else you can think of to help.

@Gabor, Kim, and Rex. Great news, I know another way you can really help us, JUST DO IT!

Our 2nd most time consuming project is getting the past issues of Rotorcraft Mag scanned and online as we have 46 years of issues to scan.

We have estimated that it could take about 10 hours at a couple hours a day that is 5 days to scan one years worth of 12 magazines a year. Note: Many years only have six issue a year.

So we need folks to donate their time in 10 hour blocks scanning one or two full years each. This should help us not miss as many issues.

If Ya-all would scan them in for us I would only need to know how many hours could you donate without overwhelming your real life responsibilities and flying time and I’ll have that many years of mag’s sent to you for scanning.

I'd be happy to scan two years worth. I have my own collection, so no need to send any mags. Just let me know what years.

Also, I'd like to volunteer to handle the maintenance side of the regulatory duties. The FAA divides it's house into two parts, Maintenance and Operations. Most instructors are well versed on the Ops side.

John just as a general scanning advice for the guys and gals whom will be doing the scanning. The web default is 72 dpi so it would make sense to scan with that resolution. Make sure if you have a page with picture to use the "descreen" feature as this will make the picture smooth and will not allow screen moire. Usually you can choose "magazine" or "newspaper" choose the newspaper settings it is usually 85 dpi the magazine is 110 dpi. Add a little white to it to fight the old paper background and it will also make the type pop out and the contrast will make it easier to read.
