Ya'll just be real careful when you hand prop, especially after doing maintenance. Tie the aircraft up, make sure you can lock your breaks, etc.
I flew over to a friends airstrip on the 4th,
One of the guys there was from another local airport, I have met him before.

He just got out of the hospital after losing his left arm below the elbow.
He was hand proping and aircraft that he had just worked on, it went to full throttle and he tried to hold on to the aircraft as it spun around on its nose,
destroying the aircraft and taking the mans arm.
He said that he is going to continue to fly, but things will be different.

So please be careful out there.

I know an A&P with less use of his hand. After some maintenance, the engine was started and warming up. Something caught his eye and he reached over to check it. Yep, through the prop. They put the pieces back on, but not 100% use.

You get comfortable standing near blenders and it doesn't always register how fast/much damage can be done.

Sorry to hear, but at least he isn't giving it up.

That story sent shivers up my spine. We had a guy taking of with his paramotor, he tried to do a forward launch in to big a wind. It pulled him backwards, he fell down, he put his hands on the ground behind him, and the prop came down on his hand. Didn't lose it,luckily.
