When I install my new suzuki 530, should I use 2 EGT probes in the Y manifold? or just one, where it goes into the single pipe?
I thought If I used 2 I would be able to monitor each cyl, might be better.

Scott it seems like your ignoring my posts.... I have asked now only about 45 times how much you want for the Caddy........ But the best way to do the EGT is with two probes so you can monitor both cylinders. Since your engine is dual carb and the carbs are only affecting one cylinder each, a dual EGT will let you monitor more closely what is going on with each cylinder

That's what I thought.
I haven't been ignoring your posts! I haven't been able to access the caddy situation,
as soon as I know something I will let you know! ;)
I need to check it out some, My son drove it about 15 miles the other day and said it smelled hot, So I don't know if it has a small radiator leak, or just dirt dobber nests burning off.
But it looks like selling the Caddy will free me up on one less project, and give me some of the capitol I need to get back in the air. I'll look the Caddy over real good this week and I'll PM you later. Cool?
I'm still not sure how I am going to rebuild the gyro, maybe some sorf of small drop in the keel, I still want to use my brock control stick, mechanism, nose wheel etc.

Scott thats cool on the Caddy. I don't need a huge landboat of a gas guzzler either, but the car looks really cool and if it is cheap enough why not buy it right?!!!
On the gyro mods, you need to chop the main keel off from behind the mast. the front of the gyro is left alone. Then drop down 1 foot under the mast and using much larger aluminum lower mast to keel cheekplates, just relocate the back half of the keel. and put your axle where it was before under the mast and keel and then you can lower the engine as a package and get much closer to if not true CLT. You will have to modify the nosewheel to make it a foot lower from the front keel tube, perhaps you can just make the side forks that locate the front wheel longer as they are done on a Falcon gyro.
Look at this pic and this is exactly what I am talking about. This is a Bensen with a drop keel. Easy to do!!!! Much safer

Cool That looks easy enough, since it has to be totally rebuilt any how. Does the Tall tail really make a huge difference? other than P factor. I kinda like the looks of Johns T-tail.

Johns T tail did pretty darn good but still not as nice as a tall tail. Just build a tail like Johns and make it about twice as tall and brace it to the mast up top and it would be the ultimate tail.
the modifed Bensen in that pic has a Maxie Wildes tall tail. Without Maxies Horizontal stab on the tall tail like his plans call for.
And Scott.... shame on you bro! Form follows function, just keep repeating that till you get the point! :)

Ron,
Doesn't Maxie's tall tail have a horizontal in the middle like your Dominator?

It does, but like anything his tail can be modified and that tail on the Falcon in that pic was modified by leaving off the stab and using the stock keel mounted Falcon stab.
The best tail IMHO would be a fixed vertical full span, or as tall or nearly as tall as the entire prop. Then a moveable rudder behind the fixed section and a Stab in the center of the propwash. John Stevens tail would be the best tail IMHO if you could extend the vertical and rudder up another 2 or 3 feet higher and brace the top to the mast at the rotorhead cheek plates. The tail doesn't have to have a airfoil shape although the stab will need to be fairly large if left flat to have enough power.
And Scott while your at it, now is the time to ditch the boat tank! If you'd like, I would love to fly over one weekend and hangout with you Jonh and Phil and promiss to spend some good time helping with the rebuild.

Yes I am ditching the boat tank. I have a sno-bird seat tank, plus 2 small aircommand extended range tanks. I'll use Just the seat tank for now. I also have a nice fiberglass instument pod.

The EGT probes are mounted 2" out from the exhaust mount. This is according to my Rotax guy.

I agree with Ron! I would use a fixed vert with the horz stab in the prop wash with a separate rudder. Carl Schneider had Dick DeGraw design one for him.
Carl initially said that he had too much rudder which made the gyro a little twitchy but the last time I asked him about it, he had got use to it and liked it the way it was. I don't know the dimensions but Carl visits here occasionally so maybe he will chime in.

A copy of Carls tail would be great, but it could also work just fine if made out of flat material instead of airfoil shape. It would be alot easier to make it flat wouldn't it? Just make the H.Stab pretty big!
