Nice, thanks Tim. I wasn't hot dogging too much in the video, just loving those slow approach landings! It looks like you got some of my " last " flight Saturday night where I did do a little hotdogging, I didn't know anyone was even watching ( everyone was busy packing up to go home )

Ron can explain better what mods he did to the gyro. It's like a cross between a gyrobee and a bensen. Here's the threads when he was building it.

Thanks guys, yeah the little gyro turned out to be alot of fun. Perfect for taking the mast apart and trailering to gyro fly-ins and It didn't cost me much to put together. I have to admit though, I haven't flown it yet since I have been back from Bensen Days though... had to give the ScrewDriver II some loving since it was getting that left out feeling

Hey Ron, if it is not too personal, what is the total amount of $$ you have into it?

I just cant wait for that video of that guy flying Ron Awads old machine. "hint hint" I bet that will be some good video from the air and ground. Anyway.... I had a blast if no one noticed while at BD. It was fun going along with good buddy Ron Awad. Very cool machine he has and it was good times competing against him in the bomb drop mano-a-mano.

I thought about not answering this, because at some point I may sell the gyro ( no plans right now ) and this will probably hurt the resale value, but to answer your question I have less than 5000$ in it.
I got some good deals on the parts I used to build the gyro which is what helped keep the cost down....
Scott Biser sold me the Rotax 503 = 1650$
Ultracruiser sold me the sportcopter blades = 1000$
Friendly sold me the tail, controls, nosewheel fork = 400$
Animal sold me the horizontal for free basically = 0$
Rotorhead from a guy in Florida = 100$
Then spent roughly 500$ on Aluminum and steel, about 150$ to have the rotorhead rebuilt and inspected by RFD, Roughly 150$ on hardware, Roughly 100$ on wheels and tires, roughly 200$ on stuff like the seat and cover and fuel tank, roughly 100$ on the throttle quadrant, Roughly 150-200$ on throttle cables and other engine install stuff, 150$ on the exhaust recoating, Roughly 100$ on spray paint and polishing sticks for the airframe, etc.... etc.....
I kept a tally of exactly what I spent to build it and I took it to the hangar to put with my other aircraft paperwork, so I can't quote exact figures, but I do remember it came up to just a little under 5000$
Pretty good when you can build a true complete flying machine for less than what some people spend on a Portable GPS for their flying machines..... Even better when a 5 grand machine takes home a award for 2nd place in the single seat category at the first event it goes to. :yo:

Ron: It was a pleasure just looking at your clean Gyronimo. There just was something about it....nothing but what was needed...no frills...but yet its simplicity didnt come easy. You did a nice job and were a pleasure to watch fly.
I would say you could do anything you set your mind to.:yo:

I would say you built that gyro in record time as well. To begin a project that really has never been built before and working it all out eats up a lot of time.

Yeah, I miss yall too......Alot. I peep in from time to time, but I don't post much since I'm not flying. Speaking of which Ron, do you still have the "Screw-II?" Somebody said something about your old machine?
Barry (I'm missing you too) K. Your the best and aces in my book. I'd love to come for a visit. I've never been to Wrens.
Hey guys......If yall wanna make me your personal project, you can call it, "Who Turned the Screw Loose," or "Let's get Screwed," I'm game, and I'll fly the h*ll out of it I swear! :peace: I'll be a poster boy. Just send everything to me and let you know when it's ready to fly.
I might have to get with Scott and Mary on engine and other technical issues, and then I might have to get with Steve for a little gator training. But other than that, I'm still current!
I love you guys.

Guys listen up...even the ones that do not like to read my posts, promise no ufos, bigfoot, or politics here......
Not many of you know just how real a man, John Stevens is.
Let me tell you something about this young man that has left we wondering what I would do in a similar situation.
Many of you know John (the screwdriver) from several fly ins. He was at times the life of the party. You just never knew what John was going to do.
He was a bright spot for a trip to Rotors Over Carolina.
John had to put down flying not because he wanted to, not because he was afraid, but because he had to.
John had to take care of business and raise a family. Last count John has 3 wonderful children. 1 of them is a special needs child with c.p. After seeing John, his wife and his 3 lovely at the very last ROC at Aiken I knew I was in the presence of a great people (wife included) . I do not know how he developed the skills to keep this all together.
In addition to that I believe, (its been a while) so correct me if I am wrong John was also caring for other children not of his own. I believe I recommended an Excursion or Expedition, I forget but he drives a monster SUV because he NEEDS IT. (It is either that or a yellow school bus) !!!
Anyway, I am willing to donate 200 bucks to a gyro cause for this man to get him back in the air. We are all not getting any younger and if there is anyone who is more deserving of a break it is John ! However I might recommend a 2 place since last recollection Jenna (da bug) his 9 year old daughter was doing (gasp) death sprials and loop de loops with Gyro Ron, (Jenna was pic, or was Ron, I forget but those 2, burning up the sky made me laugh and proud to be a part of such a great group of folks. If I ever have a daughter, I would want one like Jenna. Bright, polite, and enthuastiac for flight (go girl go ) !
what do you say guys ? [lets get it on $$$ ] !!!:):usa2:
Sincerely,
Jonathan Weis

I'm very moved by the what has been said, and the willingness to donate. I showed this to my wife, and she too was very moved. I had no idea I made such an impact on some of the people here. Alot of you have made a similar impact on me as well, and I've said before, that when things allow, I would get back into it. I love this sport, the people, and flying gyros as a whole.
If this is something some of yall are serious about doing, I would not suggest a two place because of expense. Jenna "DaBug" likes to fly, but I can get her rides at any fly-in.
I would however suggest something like a Bensen, KB-2/3, or Ultrawhite. I think I can get an airframe together, but as most know, that is the cheapest part. Everything else cost a ton.
I'm not carring for other children. My family has some challenges, that has made the affordability of gyros too costly. Barbi has been batteling a bladder desease with constant kidney stones for the last couple of years without relief. We think things are getting better for her but only time will tell. Brock does have C.P. He is 5 years old now, and is just getting bigger. With age and size, his problems are also getting bigger, this makes things more difficult for Barbi to manage while I work. I have been looking into some kind of "In Home" care, but we haven't been able to get any yet.
I have had to take a fair amount off time off work this past year for various medical issues either with Brock or Barbi, but I have high hopes that this year will be better. Balance this with a perfectly normal 2 year old boy Pacer who is into everything, and an 11 year old girl. Speaking of which.....Jenna is still as you remember Johnathan. Polite, helpfull, str8 "A" student with various interest. President of her schools Beta Club, and student ambassidor to the United States with the People to People program. Washington D.C. bound next month. Did I mention she is a "knock out?" I've got the shotgun loaded at the front door in case Ron A. comes knocking.
All and all things are going well. Today is our anniversary, and I'm really beside myself at what has been said in this thread. Thank you all. Somebody wanna start a new thread?

Thank you, Ron, for deciding to post the details! I was thinking about the guys who need to scrimp in order to have a real, safe flying machine and also how the price of new ones has sky rocketed.
Your example of how you built this one would inspire others to keep their dream alive and work for the deals you have.
Whenever you sell it (I have no doubt you will someday), the time spent building it would be worth asking for more than just your cost of materials. The fact that it can fit in between the wheel well of full-size pickup bed with that 4' landing gear ought to be worthwhile to someone who wants a gyro that is easily transported AND can be kept in a garage or carport with that folding mast you built into it.

If I sold the gyro I would price it a good bit more than 5 grand.... it is worth more! But I built it to keep for a while so no plans to sell anytime soon.
