I am (hopefully) coming to Mentone from Greencastle.
Last year I came from Cincinnati and did not have to stop at Greencastle to pickup my gyro, however, this year I am going to try and bring the gyro.
Here is my question:
Some of the MapQuest direction generators say I should drive all the way back to Indy and take US 31 North to Mentone. Others say I should press on due North on US 231 to US 25 to Mentone.
I remember most of US 31 was stop-n-go lights halfway to Mentone.
Can anyone tell me of 231 & 25 have any problems or reasons to avoid?

231 & 25 looks like a more direct route, but 25 is only 2 lanes and goes thru a lot of towns.
Sorry I can't be more help.

Humm.. yes it is. I will have to find a better online map.
They have these new-fangled things out now that don't even require a battery or monitor... I think they call them 'atlases' or something. Somehow the display worked off of dead trees and requires no batteries. Perhaps I should get one and try it... ;)

Actually, I was usine Delorme Street Atlas USA, 2003. So I still have to be plugged in.
I'm off to Mentone tomorrow morning. So I'll see you there.

I'll see you up there! Have a good trip.
Is Delorme on cd or the internet??
If all goes well I will be leaving tomorrow after work (6p) and then driving to Greencastle to get the gyro (3.2hrs) packing the gyro (1h) then driving to Mentone (4h). So anyone going to be up at 2AM to help me put the blades on?? ;)

I'd like to help you pack up, but I'll already be at Mentone. ;)
Delorme is on CD.

Thanks for the link!
Anyone know if the Super 8 in Rochester has internet access?
I might go into convulsions if I am away from this forum for more than 24 hours!

I live where US31 stops in Niles, Michigan. I frequently take US31 south to Indy. The only "pain in the butt" area is near Kokomo, IN... the truckers call Kokomo "Stop Light City." But for the most part US31 is a fairly easy trip.
