Been all over Heron. Still check the forum regularly and read almost everything. Just don't post that often. Finishing up another trip to Ft. Hood TX. Then back home for a week. Off to Ft. Rucker for two weeks after that (why I can only be at Bensen days on Saturday) then to Eglin AFB for a week and then back to Ft. Hood for two more weeks. In times like this there is always job security for an Apache pilot. The good news is I should be getting promoted in the next couple of months to CW5. Got 27 years in the military. Reckon I might have to think about retiring in another 15 or 16 years.

Lots of work and moving around!
Another 15? Too long man . . .
Well . . .maybe not . . .you are still a young lad.
Anyway, what is the age limit for military retirement, do wars count extra?

Rusty,
congrats on the 5. Now the field grades will all be leery of you.
Heron,
Before the war retirement was mandatory at Age 60, now it is Age 62, but they make exceptions for some generals, sergeants major... and chief warrant officers like Rusty. Most soldiers retire before the mandatory age. But not everybody is the same physical age at calendar age sixty, and the Army, whose personnel policies are kind of a blunt instrument, is slowly coming to realize this. I had a company sergeant major who was forced out at sixty who could outrun most of the 25 and 30 year olds still. And there was no replacing his experience. But it's sort of like the airline pilots' mandatory retirement, too: at some point, you need to make room for the new kids; the rank pyramid gets narrow at the top and there's room for fewer and fewer guys (and these days, gals, in most fields).
cheers
