What software do you guys use for youtube? I have some old 8mm tape and some new digital video I'd like to put on there.

download the YouTube downloader from them... it allows a 10 min video or up to a gig upload...

Robert, I believe what your asking is how to get it from your camera to your computer so that you can upload it to youtube.
If so, then go to Best Bay and buy Dazzle. It's a box you can plug your VHR or camcorder into, and then plugs into your USB port on the computer. This will have some basic editing software that comes with the cheap version for $50, or just go ahead and buy the $80 one that has better software, because you'll end up buying it later anyway.
As for the 8mm, better to find a local place that converts 8mm to CD or DVD for $25, and upload it from that.
Hope it helps.

Don't pay someone to convert your super 8 to digital. You can do exactly what they are going to do cheaper.
Put up your projector screen in a dark room, mount your camcorder on a tripod viewing the screen as square-on as you can and record the movie as you play it on the screen.

I was talking about 8mm tape but I do have some old hangglider 8mm film stuff from my highschool days I could post.
How do you get 8mm tape on youtube??
Dean, get me some weather and I'll show up.

Depending on the hardware you currently have, consider installing Linux Suse as an operating system. You'll be amazed at the graphics programs which come with it or for that matter, with other Linux distributions; beats the heck out of that Micro$oft stuff.

Like Tim said, you project it onto a screen, and use your digital camcorder set back and zoomed on the screen to copy the tap. But, if you send it to a place that does it professionally, they have a machine that copies it straight off the film, giving the best resolution. Cost about $25, which is worth it to me rather than waisting time setting up everything and putting it away afterwords. After it's digital, then you use the Dazzle to upload it.

I think he's talking about Sony 8mm video tapes. If that's what you're talking about you either need a capture card on the PC or an external capture box and you play the tape as you record the video on the PC. Or you can play the 8mm tape in a Digital8 camcorder and connect it to the PC with a firewire digital cable.
