Just found out today from Roger Zerkyl of ZDE that due to a recent lawsuit from some jerk who is blaming them for something, 2si is no longer making, selling, or distributing aircraft engines. They recalled all parts that thier dealers had in inventory and are only honoring engine warranties that are within the warranty time frame.
It seems to me that this is the future of all sport aviation. As long as there are freakin jerks that continue to be sue happy, this industry will never develop past the point it is now. This is why insurance is astronomical and our field of options gets smaller everyday.

The worst part of all this is the 2si line of engines are darn good engines with an excellent reliability record. The 690-L70 is argueably the best high horsepower two stroke engine in the use today.
So Matt what happens to YOU, when a year from now you need some parts? Are they still going to support the current fleet of engines out there?

I don't know man. I am pretty sick about it. There may be a way to work around the system since the engine is the same in thier other industrial applications, but for the next 6 months or so, it's going to suck for those guys out there that are out of warranty.

Sorry to hear about the 2Si situation, Matt. Hope you can get parts if you need them.

Also, I noticed that the photo you are using for your avatar photo under your username is about 500k+ in size. It takes a while to load. :o

I've attached a 100x100 pixel version you can upload to your website and use. It's only 7.7k in size.

Matt I would guess that all the jet pump motor parts will work on your motor and they will not offer the gear box anymore so as long as your box holds out your good.
Thanks Mike. Changed the files today.

Apparently they actaully use the gear box in other than aircraft applications as well. I think the trick is going to be getting parts from other "application" distributors.
As someone else mentioned, 2si has never really been a big pusher of engines for the AC industry. It's really a shame. Today I was cruising @ 5000 RPM. My indicated airspeed was 70 mph. Fuel burn 4.4 gph. Not to shabby.

Thats too bad. *Everything I'd heard about them has been good. *They seemed to be an excellent option for aircraft use. *The legal system has done nothing but hurt aviation. * ???

Matt I found this on a PPC web forum. I think this motor can't be beat for the price. If I see 400+ pounds for thrust out of it with my 73" 3 blade F type power fin I'm set for two up and with weight about the same as the old Rotax 670 I had.
Great news,
the 2SI 690 L -70hp electric start engine is once again an option on the AFU Big Dawg and for the first time, the AFU Coyote.
most of you know that 2SI was sued by an idiot back during the fall. 2SI promptly ceased selling engines or ultralight aircraft, further reducing ultralight engine choices for buyers and builders.
i believe in choices. i do not like being force fed one brand of anything even if that one brand is of high quality.
i have had very good experiences with the 2SI 690 L -70 on powerchutes. Running the 2.58 gearbox and a 72" three blade ivoprop it normally produces 420-440 pounds of thrust (on our aircraft) depending upon density altitude.
the sound of this engine is a major plus to me. to say that i love the sound of this engine is an understatement
i install a 90 degree elbow onto the exhaust outlet directing the exhaust rearward and grin from the time i takeoff untill the time i land.
the 3 cylinder engine is smooth running and so simple that a child could install / work on it.
fuel burn is on par with the 582 rotax.
hope you all have good flying weather,
don

The engine is definitley a powerhouse. I have 78 hours on mine now.
They are still selling them, it's just that they are labeled "Not for aircraft use"

Matt what is the overall length of the motor and is your starter on the PTO side or aux side?
