Hey Gang: Long time wrench, low time fix wing, low time gyro. Here is the deal, looking at two place tandem design, have IO-320 B1A and tons of gyro pieces. Lurking here, and attending fly-ins for 7 years. Have 6 hours on the BLACK with Steve. How about an IO-320 on a parson style? Struggling with dyna-focal mount to mast concept. May have to go to twinstar design. Parson would be simple construction otherwise ya know. Looking for airframe ideas to sling a LYCOMING. Dont want to re-invent the wheel. Got a fair grip on all the issues, and have a co-pilot/ builder with medium gyro time. Mike Hughes, Hangar (Lounge)7A MLB FL. 321-795-0122 cell

If you could make a mount work seems like it would work. The Avenger side-by-side gyros used lycoming engines. Anyone with any experience in those care to chime in?

Floyd Browney had (I Think) a Lycoming on a single place gyro.
It worked out Great for him,,
Steve Graves also had a Marchetti with a Lycoming on it..
And Don Farrington's Twin Stars.........
It'll work.. Oh YEA

Our PRA chapter member has been flying his Bensen for years with an aircraft engine.
Not sure what brand of aircraft engine he has.

Thanks for the response guys. Still looking for ideas for an engine mount design,to use the dynafocal ring, and mate to a mast. Maybe incorporate the struts bracing the axle?

I think the B1 version is a conical mount? I dont have my manuasl here you have to reinforce the mast and axel. Lycoming weight is above the 300 pounds. If I would have to build a parson type I would use the mazda engine, a good muffler and a bigger tail.
Just remember a simple repair in the LYC. could be 500.00 plus and in the mazda a couple of hundres

Don Callaway in the Houston area put a (320/360/?) on a 2 place Parsons design. I think he used it a while as he got his CFI rating. Understand he got out of 'gyro' business. Might check with the old active CH 62 members.:welcome:

Yeah, Don had a 360 on his machine and I think I was the last one to fly with him before he sold it to Don Farrington. Someone at Farrington ended up making a mess of it during some type of malfunction. But the 360 performed fine on this machine as far as I know.
