Well "captures" may be a little strong, (my enhanced story in parenthesis)but let me explain.

I was enjoying a nice afternoon of (life threatening)gyro flying the other day. While flying(and monitoring all the criminal activity in the City of Corona below me), I found (what appeared to be a possible felony crime in progress) a car parked in the hills. I was over the top of a steep canyon on the border of town(known for hiding bandits, druggies and crime syndicates). The car was well hidden under (a possible pirate or terrorist bunker)from observation other than by directly flying over the top of it(and being exposed to live ground fire). I noticed this new SUV parked a mile(probably loaded with explosives and drugs) from any paved road. Following FAA minimum height restrictions, as always, ( I engaged the car in a strafing run using advanced flight skills and maneuvers never before seen in public and ) I observed that no one was around and it appeared stuck in the mud (probably from the pursuit I had just given it and the explosion of my surface to air missile ).

I flew back (to headquarters) the hanger I share with Corona P.D.'s helicopter. I informed (the commanding officer in charge of secret intelligence),the helicopter observer of the (heinous) crime that was taking place within his jurisdiction. I relayed the location of my find( using CIA tracking equipment and he immediately mobilized the unit air wing for a strike attack) and went out in the scout BELL 407, for closer observation. I then went off duty, put (my turbine powered)gyro back in the hanger(after reloading all expended ammunition) and closed the hanger.

I had to stop by the hanger(headquarters) today. I was informed (by the commander) flight observer that it had been in fact a recently stolen car and that they had recovered it(after a full scale gun battle). I was awarded (the metal of valor) a set of plastic wings given (limited to only the bravest) to school kids. Another public relations Coup for the gyro community!

Corona (is now been declared safe to walk in by women and children at night, free of the criminal element) aero bureau has one more stolen vehicle recovery to add. So what did the rest of you do (to keep the criminal scourge at bay )with your gyro this weekend?

I sat in my gyro and made WHOP, WHOP, WHOP sounds... 14 degrees and windy.. BRRRR.

Great job keeping the scum off the streets Scott. You're bravery is without a doubt beyond compare (as is your piloting prowess).

The soul of Ken Janulewicz lives on !.
Presumably the rest of him does too.
What's he up to these days, I wonder?
Ron should know.

Scott,

Not to mention your writing ability and your seem to have a nack for embellishment or at least absolutely maximizing the potential of a story. I can't wait till I can start flying some of those dangerous missions. Meantime keep up the good work of making our country safer and improving our general PR.

Great story Scott,

Can I join you squadron on a mission one of these days? I know I am still a rookie and have a lot to learn, but am willing and eager to join the forces to protect and defend our right to uphold our good standing in this gyro community. :usa2:

Greg, my gyro carries a M-388 round, a real nasty little bugger. Unfortunately the President was busy with Hillary at the massage parlor, and did not authorize deployment( this weekend). Weighing 51 pounds, I have to watch the CG real closely. Would not want to PPO with one of these babies on board. The whole City would end up real sorry with the giant crater that would be left in it.

Tina, once you obtain your top secret clearance from Dave, you can apply to join. I think you need a PPL-gyro to carry weapons of mass destruction. Kenny J. will do the swearing- in, Vance will hold the bible while taking the oath. The PRA will then buy us a freshly paved runway for our own use, and life will be good.

GyroDoug, it is quite a hard act to remain a legend in my own mind.

Jim A., it has been over 80 degrees for the last few days; you mean your are not flying in shorts and a t-shirt in Feb? Why do you think we live in California...

Scott for your consideration, on your next mission, this is an EXOCET AM.39 missile which will definantely take out an SUV or even a battleship if necessary. They only cost a little over a million dollars and can be slung under the axel of your sportcopter.

Scott,
Nice job...you should mount a video camera on your gyro and have it ready every time you go out... who knows you might fly over some bad ass crime on progress or a real rescue and provide feed to the news...free-lance and maybe get paid for it...

Groen Bros. was testing a mounted camera for a while on a Sparrow Hawk.. While flying all over the area I would find car's, trucks, trailers that had been stolen and dumped in the desert...of course I didn't need a camera for that

hiding anything in the desert is difficult, less you bury it..

The city police 407 has infrared and normal camera. Frankly for the (few) things that they do catch that is worthwhile, the "film" probably cost about one million dollars a minute. Some of the the stuff they do get is very spectacular in a crime drama kind of way. Almost all the flying is done at night.

Do to declining property tax revenues, the City of Corona is seriously thinking of ending the helicopter program in June. Either hangaring it for a year or two, and restarting the program then, or outright selling it off. They would make a 600+K profit on selling the helicopter. We shall see....nobody there wants to fly a R-44 (piston)at night, and they rather go without than downgrade to a piston helicopter.

Tom T, that M-388, at 51 pounds, has the equivalent of over 40,000 pounds of TNT, no conventional bomb comes even close in yield for the weight.
