Would like to hear opinions on what is the "best" two place to use in training if you intend to build and fly an ultralight(Gyrobee).
There is a CFI locally that uses a RAF with a stab, but I'm not sure that training would be a lot of help when the time comes to transition to the ultralight.
Ron Menzie and his Parsons, is a couple hours away, or should I be trying to find a CLT Dominator or Air Command?
Any and all comments are welcome.

Ron Menzie has a horizontal stab on his Parsons trainer, and you would get the open feel of the gyrobee. I'm not talking from experience, maybe a gyrobee pilot can join in.

Pat, that is a good question and one I'm not sure most ask themselves when they go for training. Most will get their training based on convenience and cost.
The only training, or gyro flights, I've had was in an open machine so can't comment on enclosed gyros. However I've always felt that training in a tandem open machine would prepare me better for flying in an open single place than an enclosed trainer. It will be interesting to see others comments.

All gyros fly fairly alike, but if your going to fly a open light machine like a gyrobee you ought to train in a gyro that is simular. I would go to Ron m for training.

I have 9 hrs training with Ron in his modified RAF. We talked before my training about my Gyrobee and my training goals. Give him a call, he can help you decide if his program will fit. He's a great instructor. RH

If you build your 'Bee with the Watson tail and set the HS at 2.5-3 deg. negative, it will fly very much like a Dominator. I selected a Dominator tandem with the lightest engine that would do the job for training 'Bee pilots, for this reason. A new-model Air Command tandem or a Parsons with a serious HS and drop-keel modification would likely be close as well. Older models of either of these craft would not be as suitable.
