Where can I find airport lat?long and associated data in a text, excel, or downloadable data format?

I own a Garmin GPSMAP 96C for field work (great GPS). But I have been unable to find raw airport info and associated lat/long coordinates.

Surely this has been solved and there is an obvious solution.

An ESRI shape file would be a good solution if available. Garmins are particular about using only Garmin mapsource data. But there are ways to load data if you have the lat/long associated with the data.

Thanks

Is there a text file with all the airports. Obviously the database exist and feeds the airnav.com.

Alan,

Brian Wade has done a great job by creating ESRI shape files. These are mapping files that can be used by ArcEditor, ArcMap, or similar mapping programs such as global mapper (free trial).

Shape files contain 3 files of interest; projection type, index, database. The database file is the "DBF" file which is the old dbase IV format. Dbase IV files can be opened in excel.

Brian Wade provides a way to dump into the Magellan. But the data can just as easily go into the Garmins.

Thanks
Larry

007 apt-pub.dbf - Dbase IV file of public airports that can be opened in Excel (if you installed excel with all the formats for import).
