Not much good to say re: midnight hawk. What is a GOOD, simple, non-ultralight, safe, dependable, not-cost-a-college-education Gyro????? I don't want to win a prize, or get killed. I just would like to fly. Also, I live in Denver (5280')

Thanks to all the people that answered my 1st post and all the information.

Single place?

Dominator
Bee
Butterfly

and a few more.

Dominators and Bees can found used for a good price.

Butterflys are too new to see many used ones yet.

Used CLT AirCommands sometimes sell used for an affordable price also.

As far as the altitude goes that is a matter of tweaking the machine to your weight and performance needs.

The first and hardest lesson I learned about aircraft was there are no good cheep aircraft and no good aircraft is cheep. I also learned that there is no right way to do the wrong thing. It sounds like you are learning these lesson now.
As for cost you need to plan on spending about as much as you would if you were buying an ATV.
The Domanator ultra white is my pick. Consider buying the frame as a predrilled kit, I have found that you will be money and time ahead if you do.

Well I still like my Falcon kit. No manuals, but hey for $3,995 plus shipping it has great workmenship on the machined parts, it is a safe design, and proven.

look at my falcon is hatched thread.

I'll have to write to Vortech re the manual. I can't imagine building on without a manual. i think my best bet, since I don't mind building but wouldn't want to try all the testing and adjusting, is to buy a good used one.

Thanks for letting me learn from all you experiance.

We are getting quite a few gyro's in this area so you should go check some of them out. You can see in person Dominator's, Gyro bee's and I have an Air Command CLT that I would be happy to show you. Also a handful of enclosed ones around bu I believe that they would be out of your price range.

I think you will find that flying at over 5,000 ft altitude will seriously degrade your performance (unless you weigh in at under 100 lbs). I would suggest you consider a really light gyro with a Rotax 582 or move up to the Rotax 912 (4 stroke). The 4 stroke would be a great engine for you but will add a lot of cost to your Gyro as Rotax can sell them faster than they can make them and no one has put up any serious competition for them yet so they can charge whatever they want and get away with it. So if cost is the most important issue to you I would stick with a light open frame and put a Rotax 582 on it. There are a couple of Dominator's with 582s for sale in the latest PRA magazine. Check them out.

Dominator or Sport Copter with a Rotax 912. You can play around with smaller engines but if you want to fly and not spend months/years trying to find enough power go with a 912.
