After a trip to look at some land and wondering what could land there, the fuse was lit and taken on its own life! No prior gyro experience except seeing one off my wing in an ultralight while flying as a group some time ago. After some research, I was hooked. Since October I've tried to fast track training, knowledge and upgrade of an Air Command. Things are going well with a trips to Searcy, Phoenix and soon Caddo Mills. I didn't know what it would take to get training!! I plan to start building a Golden Butterfly next year and one day end up a CFI in central Texas. I look forward to meeting many new people and appreciate the wealth of information on the forum.

Welcome to the forum Paul,
Have you been out to Olney, TX and Stark aviation. They have a couple of Golden Butterflies out there, one flying and one under construction?

Hi Paul,
I’m located near Holland an hour or so North of Austin. Just recently moved my Air Command home from Caddo Mills. I haven’t met him, but there is a guy at the Georgetown Airport building a Monarch Butterfly. His name is Monarchist on this forum.
Everyone in the Texas Rotorcraft Association in Olney and PRA 62 in Houston are good people. Maybe we could meet up one day soon.
Good Luck!

Eric,
You were actually on my call list. Doug at AC said it would be good to give you a call. I hope to have my gyro up to caddo in Febuary for final checkout. I've started a thread in the PRA section for starting a new SA/Austin region chapter... Interested? I hope to make the next Houston area meeting.
Thanks,
Paul...

Hi Paul,
Yes I’d be interested in forming a chapter. I think one of the first obstacles would be to find a small local gyro friendly airport. Not that there isn’t one, but several years ago I searched for enclosed hanger space and didn’t have much luck. Regardless of whether we form a chapter, it would be nice to get together with fellow gyroheads. I’ll be out of pocket for several days going on my first deer hunt ever, but would like talk with you about it when we can.

Hi Paul,
Here are the pictures of my radiator with the plug you asked about. I’m sorry I don’t know the size of the plug, but someone here on the forum might. The Volkswagen parts department may also.
I’ve always had to cover the radiator with duct tape to keep the temperature around 165. I checked the thermostat in water on the stove with a candy thermometer and it opened and closed the way it’s supposed to. Several of the guys on the forum said they run their radiators uncovered with the cooler temperatures and no problem.
In case you need it my home phone is 254-657-0129 and e-mail is evanpraag@yahoo.com. Good luck with your machine and let me know if I can help

Thanks Gyroman, looking forward to meeting some of you boys someday soon.
Boys, as in good old Boys, because I'm a good old boy myself.

Hey CRM,
I wish I could make it to more of the meetings, but since they moved even further North of me it would be really tough to make it there unless I had a whole saturday free.
Most of my time is taken by my 3 kids and wife on the weekends. I wish I had the time to meet up with the chapter but you have to have your priorities.
Once my kids get out of sports that DAD can't be a part of then I may be able to make it some. As of now, they always want me to be a Coach of something.
