Has anyone ever put a nosepod with windshield on a machine with a 503 Rotax? Good idea, bad idea?

Thanks

Hubert didn't you use to have an RF-170 project? if so is that nose pod what you are thinking about installing? if so i would think that would be about like a falcon or even sort of like the sportcopters pod depending how much of it you used. or are you thinking like a pod like an air command?

I would personnaly think you would want more power then a 503 if you had a nose pod and windshield,I could be wrong, but would think the extra weight and drag could be a bit much for a small engine.

but thats just my thoughts on it. I am no expert by any means.
I guess it would really be a matter of how big a pod and windsheild and what it weighed.

Tim,

My bad! I use to have an RF-170 project. No longer have the enclosure, or the project. Just pieces and parts.

I was speaking about a Dominator with a 503 using the nose pod and windshield. Sorry, should have clarified that.

Thanks!

Unless you are a very light pilot, I am afraid the nose pod and windshield would not work out very well with the smaller 503 engine. But you could try one anyway, I am sure it would still fly, it just might not climb out very well.

You mentioned you still have some gyro parts. I need some gyro parts, could you email me with what you have that you want to sell? thanks Ron sawad13@msn.com

What size engines were on the single-place Air Commands with pods?

I flew a 503 Air Command low rider for 2 years with a pod and wind shield.
At the time I weighed around 200lbs. and my pod is the one that goes around the seat, bigger than the Dom. pod.
My climb out was not as good as with the CLT mod and the 618 I have on it now but that's a no brainer.
But I thought it climbed out and flew just fine.

If you have dual carbs on it I think you'll do OK with the pod. It will add 10 to 15 MPH to your cruise speed.

If your Dom doesn't then buy an AC. I know that'll work. ;)

i have a friend that has a air-command with 447 and a pod with windsheild, he weights about 185 or so. and he zip's all over in that thing like a home sick angle. it's a low rider.

The Butterfly Monarch that Larry used for many of the videos on his website used a Rotax 503 and had a nose pod and windshield. Larry is a medium sized pilot and had great performance with that combination on his Monarch. But every Gyro is unique and there are alway other considerations.

A Dominator pod is pretty heavy though, probably heavier than the other type of pods mentioned here.
