Do I need another Prop?

I'm running a Tenn. Wood prop 52x28. My engine is an 1835cc VW @ 65hp peak @ 60hp continious.

I'm flying around at what I think is 80-90% throttle. Iether way, my Tach is burried at 3500 RPM during all phases of flight. I don't know what my takeoff RPM is or my minimum RPM is for flight because of this.

The Engine Manufacturer (Great Plains) says it's ok to max out @ 3500 or more for takeoff, but I should be cruising at about 3100-3200. They also said I'm wotrking the engine too hard if I'm constant 3500 RPM or more.

Do I need a 52x30? My engine isn't overheating anymore.

we us a 50x30 you will get a better crusie and will have to run abit more for TO. We had use, STCROIX, STERBA and VAN MAXSWELL.

Thanks Chuck, but I'm not sure a 50x30 will perform any differantly than my 52x28.

Brent- The tiny Tach isn't working, so I can't tell what RPMs I'm running. Right now all of my temps are in order. I just don't know if I'm running the engine too hard or not. I know if I go to a 52x30, that'll run my engine harder and probably hotter, but I'll have a reduced RPM.

52 to 50 is a big delta and on top of that you change pitch. Also increasing pitch will not run your engine harder since wyou are bitting more air. What will do is increase your run to gain 55 mph but when cruising you will be at lower crusing RPM since the prop is bitting more 28 vs 30.

When went form 50x28,29,30,31. 52x30 and the 50x30 was the best trade of. See if you can have some one let you try a 50x30 . If you were dwon here I can do the swap today.

Ship your machine and your self down here. We will try it out

I would get something to get a ture RPM reading then prop it. I think the 52x30 will work lower the rpm and it is all ready working hard.
