Our November Chapter meeting is coming up soon. Please put Nov. 1st at 7:00PM on your calendars as the PRA Chapter 2 Meeting. This month we will be meeting at Gary Harper Jr.'s house in Clearfield, UT. to check out his almost finished Falcon. I will be sending an e-mail to everyone on my list with his address and a Map to help you find his house. If there is anyone out there that isn't on my list but would like to come, let me know and I will be glad to sen you the information.
For those that have been following his thread and seen the pictures, I know they look great but it will be even better in real life. So plan on joining us and check out the newest Gyro in Utah. Plus we will have some great Gyro Flying Video to Watch. We'll see you there!!!

Well, we had our November Meeting at Gary's home last night. Gary's lovely wife (Christy) was an incredible hostess (more about her later) and had all kinds of treats and drinks for us. I wish we had enough members that we could have consumed all that she prepared but that will probably take us years to get to that level. Anyway we all had more than sufficient for our needs (or desires).
The award for who traveled the farthest goes to Brad Reeve who traveled all the way from Panguitch, UT. (about a 4 hour trip) and joined us for the first time last night. He even brought his daughter with him and she seemed to really enjoy the evening.
The highlight of course was getting to see Gary's Gyro. After more research he has determined the machine he has was originally called an Avenger. This model eventually morphed into the falcon Gyros that can be found in single seat and 2 seat tandem versions. We are not aware of any others like his out there that are flying but that is a real shame because this machine is truly a beautiful machine and looks like it should fly good. While he hasn't done a double hang test yet to verify the Thrust line vs Center of Gravity issue, with the direct drive coming off the 2.2 Subaru engine and how it is set up it sure looks like it will be pretty close to a center line thrust machine. It has a tall tail with a Horizontal Stabilizer right in the middle of the prop wash. You can really see the design heritage from the Sparrow Hawk 1 with this machine. Gary has done a great job of rebuilding this machine. He expects to get it inspected by the end of this month and he will have it registered as an ELSA Gyro. Way to Go Gary!!!!
Gary's wife Christy told me she wasn't really interested in any kind of flying. While we were oogling Gary's Gyro she was spending time with her kids which seem to be a priority in her life. However when we asked Gary how he found this great Gyro opportunity it came out that his wife is the one that found it and bought it for him (at least the original project). Now that's the sign of a Great Woman. She really wants nothing to do with any of his aircraft projects but she knew it would make him happy so she pursued some information she learned about and it resulted in him getting a project that when mixed with 3 years of effort has turned into a beautiful Gyro.
Thanks Christy and Gary for leading the way and showing us what can be done. You certainly should be proud of what you've accomplished so far. Best of luck with your future!!!! We're glad you're part of our Utah family of Rotorcraft Enthusiasts.
