View Full Version : Tweeked new Oz blades arrived today.

I have been waiting for a while for the new Oz blades that I had tested a few months ago to come back "tweeked". The manufacturer had been overloaded with orders, and had just gotten around to performing the adjustment that we thought was required. Well today they arrived and tomorrow will be the first chance to assemble and fly  them. I am hoping that our adjustment decision will bring the performance to the standard that I require for "Firebird". Tomorrow will tell the tale of woe or wow!!!!! Hopefully I will have good things to report, but you never know until you have a go!!!!! I could have left this post until after the testing, BUT I thought that you should all have to worry as well as myself untill the testing!!!!!!! Aussie Paul.

Hi John, no the wx has been reasonable but my training workload is quite high. Have tested the blades again, and found that we have only achieved  about 50% improvement in the pitch stability. On the other hand, in all my years of gyros and various blades I have never flown anything with so much lift. Compared to the best of the other 30' blades that I have tried, these require somewhere between 200 and 400 engine rpm to do the same job at 60 MPH. because of my student workload I can't get to have them on for testing for any more than 2 days. I have to change the rotor head as well because the torque tube offset is less than the Raf blades that I am training on. The 29' blades that I had done a couple of hundred hours on were bought by Chum for his single place. We just got another hub bar to make them 26'. As Chum is up and flying I have lost access to these blades. Having to use Raf blades is a bit of a pain, although they do the job quite well. I have fitted a set of 30' extruded alloy blades again but had to change the head re torque tube offset. I have used these blades before on my Raf with a reduced offset torque tube, but I need to try them on Hybrid for a while to find out how they compare. Geez, I have to go and get an exhaust before they shut. Cheers all. Aussie Paul. The Sportcopter blades that were supposed to come to a customer in Melbourne last April are not arriving untill January 2004. They were paid for back in April but Kelly "asked" him if he could wait because his machine is a long way from completion. Sop it may be a few months yet before I get to fly and test Sportcopter blades.
