While planning my build, I didn't like the high prices for nav and strobe lights. I also strongly prefered going LED instead of any other lighting technology. I found a great article about Nav and Strobe lights by Scott Gettings, EAA 724: http://www.eaa724.org/TechnicalStuff%20.html

I used a set of emergency vehicle whalens on my SxS. They worked very well and were a fraction of the price of the aviation version.

I bought boat navigation lights from West Marine & a white acorn light from AutoZone for the tail.
I had to cut the cover on the nav lights so they could be seen from above & below. I see the price went up when I bought them, I think I only paid $25 for the set.
I bought 2 stobes from JCWhitney, 1 on the keel & 1 on the mast.

They passed the FAA inspection & seem to work fine.

Heather, check out the Kuntzleman strobe/nav light systems. I'm running a set on my gyro. Price was $400. They seem to get heavy use in the experimental category.
