What brand & part # pumps are you guys using on the EJ engines?
I want the best pumps that I can get. I will also be asking how to wire them in with the computer & the redundant switchover system.
Thanks

Thanks for the response ,Paul.
I am still hoping for more input on different pumps.
What pressure & volume am I looking for? How about power consumption?

Paul , I will search for Bosch fuel pumps, Thanks!
Could you please follow the fuel pump thread under....OTHER COMPONENTS.
BTW, I got my Autoflight gearbox. It is Neils' new heavy duty version to handle the HP of the EJ25 with cams. The EJD160X.
I am looking forward to getting it on my gyro !

Does your prop still turn counter clockwise? Which direction is the redrive up or down.?
Chris,
When I first started modifying the EJ22 in 1990 we were using Bosch pumps. After a number of failures we switched to Ford F150 pumps from 1987 vintage 300 cu. in. straight six. I have never heard of a failure of an F150 pump.
You can find them at any auto parts store. Pressure is around 90 but the bypass regulator drops that down to 36-40 psi.

Thom, The redrive puts the prop below the crankshaft.
Looking at the rear of the pusher prop, the prop spins CLOCKWISE.
That is the same as the Joe Souza redrive that is still on it .
Don, has there been any complaints about radio noise caused by the fuel pumps ?
Bosch's website says that they have noise suppression coil or something like that.
So you do not recommend the BOSCH ?
I will find out today which pump you are speaking of.
I have been told that the RAF kit uses the Carter P5000. Has anyone had problems with these ?

I've been working on EFI engines for 30 years. The Bosch roller vane pumps are extremely reliable IF you never let them run dry or suck aerated fuel and never get dirt in them. They will not tolerate any dirt, small pieces of rubber fuel hose etc.
I've pulled many Bosch pumps from cars with over 400,000 miles on them, being 30+ years old and they still work fine. You will notice the impressive filtration used on OE Bosch installations- important.
For race and aviation applications, we have had very good success with both Bosch and Walbro (impeller type). The Walbros are physically smaller/ lighter and draw a bit less current and can take running dry and some dirt without damage in most cases.
You can use Earls stainless screen type filters on the pump inlets. Be sure to have the pumps lower than the fuel level on all aviation applications to avoid air locks. Many EFI pumps do not prime well unless inlets are submerged.
Carter and some GM pumps are the worst as far as reliability goes. To my knowledge MSD pumps have worked fine on a number of aviation installations.
Chris,
I don't have any issues with noise with my fuel pumps.

I know the fuel injected VW Vanagons use the external Bosch pump. I think you could ask for one from a mid 80's model and they could set you up.
I use one off a 91 Acura Integra, It is also an external electric fuel pump that will put out enough pressure for fuel injection.
