Can anyone recommend a good GPS that shows the class of airspace your in while flying? I am looking for a GPS I can mount on the instrument panel of a Magni M16 trainer. One that wont break the bank and wont take up half the dash space. ???

I use a Garmin 195 and it has this feature. Kinda big and pricey though.... I have a friend who has a Airmap 100 that also has this feature and it is a good bit smaller. He wants to sell it and he has many extras that go with it. He wants 225.00$ plus shipping. Let me know if you want it. I sold it to him and I know it works great and is in like new shape.

Darren,

Thats a great deal on an aviation GPS. I use a magellan 315 with an aviation database, but it does NOT show airspace. You need a true aviation GPS like the airmap 100 for that.

Todd

I use a Garmin III pilot $499 all day at Sporty's or Aircraft Spruce. It won't give you airspace (that I know of) but it gives me everything most folks would need like Roads, airports, private fields as well as frequecies. Hell of a deal for the money IMHO. Small enough to take on a gyro or in a Cessna. I use lithium batteries and she hasn't let me down yet. It also does VOR, NDB, distance, ETA speed and Direction Arrows on two choices of flight windows.

I love mine-
I have the garmin pilot 3. It shows the airspace. Hardly would be an aviation gps if it didn't. It even warns you when you are just outside the airspace by showing on the screen "attention approaching class C airspace in 4 minutes" or whatever. It is a nice piece of equipment. Screen is a little small but it packs a lot of power.

I used it to drive from florida down to BD. I didn't know the way to the airport in the middle of all the oranges... but it showed me I was going the right way and how far out..... jtm

The Garmin pilot 111 is one of the smallest and a very good GPS.

If you wish to spend a little bit more money and have something very useful look at the Anywheremap system using the new Ipac 2210 and a wireless antenna by Socket.

That will give you not only the most advanced GPS in production but also a full personal computer that will do just about everything your desk top PC will.

www.anywheremap.com

Fot International ferry flights I use three GPS units. Two Anywheremap's with Ipacs and one Airmap 300.

That of course is overkill but I am a firm beliver in redundancy.

Chuck E.

I am using a $99 Magellan 310. It does not show airspace, but I don't need that feature. I programmed in all the airfields within 100 miles of my home airport, and that's all I need. I know that the Denver class B airspace covers 30 miles from DIA and I know there is one class D airspace 60 miles north, and that's all I need to know.

I don't need any redundancy because I don't fly IFR, and even if my GPS fails I can always use VORs and good old pilotage.

This unit is rugged and can take a lot of beating.

Udi
I use a Garmin 295 in my gyro it came out of my piper when I sold it, If I did not have it I would use the "Anywhere Map" it is the smallest in size and it can do everything, If cost matters look for a used one on ebay or at a local airport or even the companys in Trade-a-plane sell re-cons, used are great becouse you can get all the updates you need right on line.

I have a like new 315, should you decide you want it, I'll let you have it cheap.

I decided I wanted the "SporTrak Pro". I just bought one yesterday on eBay.
