Second time out since April and two spinal surgeries.
Butterfly loves wind and is rock solid STABLE:whoo: :whoo: :whoo:
Somewhere else in another thread a member was asking Birdy about what might be one of the better single place kit gyros ......
:director: Butterfly/Monarch
My Blue Emperor Butterfly is the most stable gyroplane I have ever flown:lalala:
Yesterday arvo with 25 knots with gusts in excess of that. What a joy. Starting to get a flight in each week and looking forward to Summer so I can put some hrs on this 'baby'.
Fly Safe,
Mitch.

Grant, I keep my Monarch out at Covington Municipal (9A1). You're welcome to come by anytime if you want to see one up close and watch a little flying demo.

Tim Mate,
Love the way you phrase your words. ;)
Heron,
I remember well. Planning another visit Hombre`. 'Find me a rainbow...:blabla:
Grant,
Go check out Iven and his Monarch you will have a blast.
Giro5,
My Mate did a good job considering he told me he hadn't got any.
Windsock pic is great. Actually the rubber sleeve had slid down the blade and the whole gyro tilted back with the wind, I was moving in to 'sort it out'.
Birdy has suggested a stick lock is a good idea. I'll have to ask around the Butterfly/Monarch Family to see if anyone else has done a mod.
Fly Safe
Mitch.

Mitch I was asking Birdy and have been looking at various kits/designs. The Butterfly series do figure and their owners all seem pretty enthusiastic. Certainly am considering.
Glad to hear the ops seem to have gone well.

Hey Animal, that was definitely me, glad you enjoyed watching. I'm pretty sure I've got the only Butterfly in Georgia.
I'm hoping to make it again this year but I'm trying to work out some logistical issues. I don't have a trailer so I'd be flying in, but have no way to bring camping gear on the gyro.

G'Day Resasi,
Everyone I know in the Butterfly Family simply rave about how much they luv their gyro.
I am sure a Monarch is a far more 'racey' version of the very light and very stable and very nimble Butterfly.
Seriously, There are absolutely no 'pitching' issues (PIO) with this gyro compared to every RAF2000 and other two place side by side trainers I have flown. I take the Butterfly up in some serious winds and it always points the way it should.
Some folks here have said the tail might be to powerful, I prefer the manufactured T tail over the original tail which was and AirCommand tail with the HS in the first third of the prop wash. Now the HS is dead centre prop wash.
I dont know how the Dragon Wings would compare to the Glass Composite Patroney Blades we use 'Down Under' on Butterflys and Monarchs . Smooth as silk, lots of inertia @ 75lbs for a 23 1/2 foot disc, hang on forever and never want to stop flying or land. The difference in performance of the gyro between the very light 45 lb Bensen Blades and the Patroneys is phenomenal.
I was looking at the US price list the other day and with the OZ dollar the way it is a Butterfly in Australia for 16 1/2 Grand is cheap as chips.
There is one thing I dont like and that is that I have the original Brock 5 gallon tank and would very much like to upgrade to a Tom Milton 7.5 gall as soon as funds allow. I have recently ordered a Metro Launch System 'MLS' for my Butterfly. Allan and Daj who have Monarch's with 'G' Force Landing Gear 'GFLG' have also purchased MLS units and we hope to have hem installed prior to the next Aussie Nationals. The decision for me to purchase a pre-rotator comes as a result of spinal surgeries, make life a little easier for the 'old bloke'.:violin: ::D
Resasi, whatever you get, I wish you many happy and safe hrs flying.
Cheers,
Mitch

Grant:
Will you extend your invitation out to me? I just moved to ATL area 9/12/07. My gyro is in the garage, it will be some time before it is ready to fly again. But in the meantime, I'd like to meet my local gyro pilots.
BTW, I live in near between Douglasville and Carrollton out west of ATL off I-20.

Hey Greg, not sure if you were addressing Grant or me, but definitely head out to Covington whenever you get a chance. Weather permitting, how about next weekend?
And Barry, I like Ron -- but not nearly well enough to be wearing his PJ's ...

Thank you kindly Mich, still looking at all the various options out there. Guess the Metro Launch System really does cut down on the ground run. I got sucked into gyros by watching the Very modified Carter Butterfly doing its vertical take-offs, put down a deposit on the 2 place. Problem is it could be a while coming, if ever, so figuring on trying to get a simple to build fairly small performer in the meantime. Still tossing up whether to go for a single or 2-place as the idea was to go flying with my boy.

Resai,
OK so Jay is taking deposits on a concept craft?........No prototype yet?
Like I said whichever way you go, fly safe and have fun.
Cheers,
Mitch

I don't know if I should say this but Jay only needs a cabin.
All the rest is tested and proven good.
I wish he would get a two place demonstrator in the air asap.
then it all comes down to this: training centers and demos.

Jay is building a complete new ship. That takes time and money.
The main features of a new gyro he has developed and tested.
With a cabin he can demonstrate different uses for a ship that is possible and not to far away.
Some 3 years ago I told Larry, I have what I wanted, now you guys go after the records. My vision of 25 years ago is not a vision no more! I can make one!
It will be a Model T but cosmetics will do wonders to the right shaped gyro. (I mean config)
Remember now, the rotor flies and we go along with it, many things are possible within some parameters.
Effort concentrated is key . . .we are too dispersed when been so few should creat the band feeling . . .even the wolves gather for the hunt.
Greed in this case is not good! No place for prima donas here . . .
thanks

G'Day Gents,
Mounted a flashing beacon, another Rotor rpm cyclometer. 340 rrpm S & L on Patroney Glass blades, 23 1/2 footers, 75 lbs including hub bar.
This time of year the wind never lets up down here in Tasmania, next stop Antarctica.
Cheers,
Mitch.
