See images below. They start at post number 10.

I have converted a side view of an LW-5 into a bitmap image and using windows "Paint," I was having some fun.

Feel free to copy these images and repaint. Show me some of your ideas and how things would look. Note the radial!

Funny Mike,

The airframe will be ready for powdercoating soon, and powdercoating is the start of a paint job. I have some ideas, but I'm really stumped. I have converted a side view of an LW-5 into a bitmap image and using windows "Paint," I was having some fun.

I called Ron Awad (GyroRon) and said I should create a post and see what you nice people think would be a good idea.

I was gonna post some of the paint scheme ideas of mine, and I was hoping that anyone could save the image I post and re-paint as they see fit in their Windows "Paint" and post their ideas in responce.

In an effort to reduce the size of the image, it was distorted very badly. I'll and I think converted back into a JPEG image which really "Screws" the pooch. I'll try again tomarrow.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a program which could be run within the forum to allow swapping paint schemes? If you could enter the kit name, have a plain graphic pop up, then tinker and share ideas?

I suggested to John to powder coat the frame WHITE. Then to paint the gyro white up to the front windows, Then Orange to the tail, Then Checkerboard on the tail. Something has to be done to make the white front and Orange middle meet up nicely, Ghost flames, Scallops, ???

Anyway this would have him with matching gyros. And I don't think a plain KB-2 is too exciting but thanks to Johns cool paint job on his I think it is a real darn good looking gyro!

Your right Paul. That would be great. Easier to share ideas.

Thanks Ron. You really touched me. :D

That was cold Scott.

Alright I've reduced the images to less than 150kb, but I'm not sure if it will be large enough to any good. Like I said, these are some of my ideas, and the only differance between the three is the frame color, which is what I need right now. Please feel free to come up with and share you paint ideas with me.

You are right though, you lost some detail by posting it as a BMP file.

I vote for the orange bottom and the white top (including the frame members).

Orange and white is also the colors of the University of Texas!

See John, I was on to something!!! I like how you did it on the drawings, you just need to add a touch of white just aft of the engine somehow.

Hi John, I think that the first is the best! I think that all of them are very atractive and they demonstrate your arttistic skills. I admire your attention to detail. I would not have thought that frame color would make such a difference. Very nice job John. thank you, Vance

I like the one in post #17 best also. I'm afraid the prop might hit the runway though. You might have to use a smaller one.

Get off the prop Chuck. I did the best I could. The prop size is true to the drawing, but the prop hub is a little lower on the radial.

Why are you so worried about the size of my wood? Its not like I live in Alabama :D

Good Evening John,

I know you are working on a color for your new bird. I have attatched two shots of my white frame. It is just a primer but I hope it gives you some idea of what it looks like. Did you go with the Rotec ? When do you think you will have your frame?

Hope this helps, Frank

Well, what are you going to do with new people? Sorry John, they will not attatch. Frank

They will attach unless the file size of the pic is too big. There is a 150 KB limit on pics on this site, so you might have to edit your pic to make the size of the file smaller.

Could someone tell me or point me to a souce that explains the difference between LW 2,3,4,5?

Well the Little Wing website is a good place to start. The specs have comments stating LW2,3,4,5 and there are pictures showing the different models.

Tim,

I may be wrong in this summation but working on them it seems that each is a progression of changes in designs. This is basically what is happening as I see it.

The first LW single place was an ultralight. At first it didn't leave enough weight available for covering of frame but subsequent changes in tubing sizes should allow it now.

The single place LW 2 was heavier and also featured a moving horizontal stabilizer with the head only moving in yaw axis.

The LW3 was introduced because some people said that they were worried about pitch control during landing flare with the LW2, although apperently it wasn't really a problem. It had antiflap teeter limiters.

The LW3 featured a fully articulated head and had a fixed horizontal stab. It also had antiflap teeter limiters that used centrifical force to actuate levers that would allow full back rotor tilt only when the rotors were up to speed.

The Lw4 came about as Ron Herron answered the call for a two seater. His new design featured push pull cables instead of push pull tubes. It also has the automatic teeter limiters, as well as a beefed up frame.

The LW5 is a shorter version of the LW4 by a couple feet and came about as a design for people that just wanted a shorter aircraft. It is the LW5 design that was modified for Andy Keech that had a large fuel capacity that was needed for the transcontinental flights and endurance records. In all 2 seater designs the pilot would solo from the rear, in the Andy's modified LW5 design the front passenger was basically exchanged for fuel tanks.

There have been quite a few changes and consideration basically involves choices between ultralight, single, 2 place (long), 2 place (short).

For more information it is interesting to vistit their website:

Thanks James and Toby. I hope you don't mind but I am going to cut-n-paste your post into the PRA Chapter 34 web site I am working on. I am about to ask for help with it in a new thread.

Thanks!

P.S. The web site you guys gave me is MUCH better. The one I had been going to I thought was the offical web site and it was not very informative on the various models. http://www.flygyro.com/littlewing/

Now I have my act together ( i think )

Fdarby,

Yes, I'm going with the Rotec Radial on an LW-4 frame. The LW-4 is 18feet long, The LW-5 is 16 feet.

I choose the longer frame because because to me, a longer taildragger is easier to takeoff and land than a shorter one. Tha't just me.
