As I stumbled around the ultra light area at Air Venture I came upon two impressive looking gyroplanes. The sign said they were called UFO.

I found that I was storing dead batteries in my camera so I was not able to capture the moment. Hopefully someone else will be able to share some pictures. I did not see either of them fly.

There is certainly a lot of excitement in the air.

Thank you, Vance

The only one I can think of is this one, Vance:

Is this what it looked like?

Yes Ed, that is the one. I think it is remarkable that it can fly four six hours on 25 galleons with a half hour reserve.

Yes Tim, that is it. The gentlemen that were with it said that they would fly it at Mentone and they were from underneath. There are two of them now; one has a remarkable curved radiator.

There was also a Helicopter there with a carbureted Chevrolet V8 racing engine with 330 horsepower. He is supposed to fly tomorrow.

There were also a lot of Mosquitoes.

There was a Rotorway 162 with a 305 horsepower turbine from a military helicopter that was only supposed to burn 12 galleons per hour of diesel. It didn’t burn any while I was there.

I saw the RotaMax rotary; they said it was very light and very powerful. It looked a lot like a boat motor that OMC had worked on for a number of years. The 75 horsepower one weighs 70 pounds. They feel that they have the cooling and noise issues that Mazda has been challenged with completely resolved.

Thank you, Vance
