This pic was taken near Quinter Kansas on memorial day weekend. We were at the home place about 30 miles from where this picture was taken. Just a little front coming through with 70 mph winds and a little dirt. This is common to have radical changes happen out west. We had just finished trimming some trees near the house that I am sure would not have held against this wind.

You can see in the picture Western Kansas is flat. But it is plowed fields, corn, or wheat. You can drop in anywhere, but forget the roll.

Thus my interest in having a gyro that can "drop in" in an emergency. I am sure the answer is "Don't be out in bad weather." My response is, "always build for the worse case."

Note the nice blue sky in the back ground.

Wow, that impressive...and pretty scary. I'd either be running like hell or getting on the ground looking for cover.

Far out!

That is cool.

Have you been reading the logs of the Global Explorer ( around the world in a gyro )? He has had to do some fancy flying to avoid several sand storms in the desert.

I learned to fly 150's at the young age of 16 a few miles from where this picture was taken. We did practice alot of cross-wind landings. Here is a small breeze from the west.

This is about 60 miles from the first picture I posted. My dad mention they use to see walls of dirt like this in the 30s, but sometimes they were not sure if it was dirt or grass hoppers. Dad did think the last 3 years was just as bad as the 30's. The pastures are brown, and everything is burned up except the irrigated ground.

It was the first one, The Mummy. I'll bet we could see the face if we were using mrford61's camera! ;)
