The Xenon 2 place gyro received the top honor at the EAA Front Range Airshow in Denver on Saturday.

Xenon was awarded Best Light Sport Aircraft. The field included a dozen popular fixed wing light Sport planes and no other rotorcraft. Also on hand at the front range airshow were Velocity, CT, Lancair, Columbia, Cessna and even a beautiful SeaWind flying boat.

Highlights of the airshow were the two F-15's and one F-16 that put on an awesome demonstration.

Before and after the show Xenon was welcomed by rotaryforum member and world gyro altitude record holder Dr. Bill Clem in his wonderful hangar. The

Xenon was tucked between Bill's record setting 914 powered dominator and the only prototype of the great looking Wind Ryder gyro. While the Xenon was enjoying the hangar floor Dee and I luxuriated in Bill's fantastic mezzanine level apartment-- nicer than our motorhome so we may never leave.

I will post some photos soon.

Wow Rob! It is a good thing you can’t hit more fly-ins and shows as it will give the others a chance to win! You, Raphael and his crew have done a great job showcasing the Xenon in the US.
Congratulations on the newest award. Can't wait to see the 914.

Hi all,

I was there and can agree that the Xenon deserved the 1st price. It's a nice machine with lot's of space.
Had de honour of meeting Rob and his wife. They where very friendly and answered all the questions I had very professional.

The Xenon is built over here in Europe.

Regards,

Robert Ensing / Netherlands

Thanks all.
Even more good news on Monday morning.

I had not had a chance to fly the xenon in Colorado before the show so I declined doing any demo flybys as I was not sure how it would perform with the non turbo engine and short blades in Denver.

On Monday moring after the show I took off and was pleasantly surprised at the performance.

Solo I climbed out at 500 fpm and was able to cruise at 68 knots. The density altitude was 7,500' acording to the AWOS and I flew for about an hour and then did a touch n go at another airport 15 miles away by which time the density altitude was even higher.

So better than expected performance but we will still only sell the turbo model and 28.5 foot blades in Colorado which should go like a rocket.

Perhaps, as in another thread, Rob might consider adding a gyro pad to his sailboat???
