View Full Version : Flying the Xenon-- SWEET!

Had a chance to go on a little cross country jaunt today visiting 6 airports in the Phoenix area. Did touch and gos at most of the airports and a full stop at Cooledge before returning to Falcon field.

The more I fly the Xenon the sweeter it is!

Solo I am climbing out at 800 fpm no problem and that is at about 3,000 ft. desity altitude. Once trimmed up I had no problem flying hands off for about 3 minutes. After that time I had drifted about 10 degrees off course so I poked the stick a bit to get back on course, but the machine was docile the entire time- no dives or occilations of any kind.

The trim system is very easy to adjust.

It is a blast flying over the desert at low level and then feeling the cool air when you fly over an irrigated cottom field.

It is about 75 degrees at 6 am and heats up to 100 degrees by mid day so I am still flying with the doors off though I know it handles better with the doors on.

Also pushed the speed up a bit today to about 88 mph.

More tomorrow.

Can't wait to see some flying photos from that area. How soon before you have a video camera mount hooked up?

Tim,

Have not had much time to think about pics or videos yet but soon.

We are very grateful for the cool video you did of the Xenon and you put on Utube.

Sorry I didn't get any interior shots of the Xenon on my video. When it first landed it was surrounded by people and I told myself I'd wait and get some interior shots later. Then I forgot all about it. Someone else posted a Xenon video on youtube that did a really good job of showing the interior.

Rob, great post. Why don't you come by Deer Valley where I am based with my RAF. Have room in the hanger for another gyro. I would like to see the Xenon up close and perhaps do some West Valley airport hopping.

Walt,

I would love to do some flying with you but I will heading to Colorado with the xenon in about a week.

If you want to see it before it goes give me a call at 307-221-6505.

Scott Tinnesand will have his here soon and it will be permanently based at FFZ.

Finally bit the bullet yesterday. I'm selling my Robinson R-22 and I already sent in my deposit on a Xenon.

I basically had the R-22 so I could have something to fly in the winter. But I really enjoy flying gyro's a lot more. With the Xenon I can fly year round.

Now I can keep up with Stans flying.

I flew to Phoenix this week from Kentucky to fly the Xenon. Met both Rob and Scott. They are first class guys and it was apparent to me this is a business for them but it was also clear they have passion for their work. Both Rob and Scott are first class alll the way. Anyone that may wonder who your doing business with I have completed phase one of your due dilligence. They past with flying colors.

Scott took off and shortly into the flight I took the stick, Although I'm Gyro rated the first instruction I recieved was to loosen up on the death grip. I knew better than that but had to reminded to loosen the grip and fly the Xenon. Scott was in no hurry and I belive he would have stayed up for another half an hour without saying a thing. After loosening my grip I enjoyed flying the Xenon. The Xenon was as advertised in both looks and performace.

Anyone considering a serious well designed and completed machine should take a look at the Xenon.

Chuck: Hey....thats good news :first: . Congratulations. You will have a nice year round flying machine that is actually cheaper to fly than to just look at. I couldnt build enough stairways to keep me in a helicopter.

Sure....I would love the ability to take off and land from a "spot".....but the expense and maintenance required for doing that just doesnt cut it with me. Plus.....I love the freedom of being able to let go of all the controls and just go along for the ride.

Enjoy your Xenon.....it looks like Illinois is getting its fair share of two place enclosed machines.

David,

Thanks for the kind words-- we very much enjoyed meeting you. Scott said you flew pretty much the entire time and did great in putting the Xenon through its paces.

Grats! To both of you! It is a very nice looking machine. I would rather be out in the open though, my Motorcycle doesn't even have a windshield, (and yeah i've ate lots of bugs). A canopy to me would be like putting on a poncho, before i take a shower (to wash the bugs off).
