Hi Everyone,
I am trying to add a hour meter to my 503 and can't
seem to get it to work off of either of the lighting coil
wires, I assumed that's where it would hook up my
experience with Rotax's is very limited but I know
when I bought this engine it had an Hr. meter hooked
I just don't remerber how it was hooked up.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Jamie,

It depends on the hour meter you have, but *generally* you can't hook it directly to the lighting coil wires of a Rotax engine. This is because output of the lighting coil wires is AC. The output first needs to be rectified to DC and regulated to 12-14 volts before connecting to most hourmeters.

Some hour meters are a little different in that they don't start counting time unless they also receive an ignition pulse... or even a signal from something like an oil pressure gauge.

Good luck,

John L.
