The good guys are winning! 54% for lifting the ban when I voted.

I just voted and it was up to 56 percent for lifting the ban. I think there should be a law that every home and business owner should have to own at least one assault weapon, be proficient with it and have to keep it loaded and close by. That would prevent a lot of crime.

Yeah right, like on all war zones with all the hardware people still commiting crimes.
You guys are something . . .assault weapons!
A good Glock will drop most bad guys.

Okay, Heron. You made your point . . . . but at least some decent firearm. My main thinking is that anyone, other than felons, should have the right to own whatever kind of weapon they want to own.

They just passed very strict laws in Brazil and it was already hard.
I do not like it, but the one side they can control is our side, than averyone carrying a weapon will be a bad guy. Exception for sport guns with permit.
The police does not go to the shanti towns anymore, to much heavy stuff (AK's Uzi's ect)
Some pockets in Rio are really messed up and the army is taking control.
to bad for all

THat sounds like a sad situation, Heron. There are a couple of towns in the U. S. where owning guns is mandatory for the citizens. They have no crime.

Robert A. Heinlein wrote that an armed society is a polite society.

Think about it.

Chuck one of the towns that you speak of is Kennesaw, Georgia.
They got tired of the spill over crime from the Atlanta area.

They did in fact "nip it in the bud" so to speak. Crime fell 94%.
It looks like we could learn from that.

Thanx for that info Ray. I agree with you, in that we should be able to learn from that. I wonder why CNN is taking the poll. Did you vote?

I guess gun control is just about the most emotional issue there is in the U.S. And while for the most part I don't care one way or the other; I will play devil's advocate for the gun control folks that will be intimidated by those of you that so passionately support your right to have guns. And why wouldn't they be intimidated, you people have guns!

Both groups can spout statistics with the best of them to support their views. I suspect both groups are right and both are wrong. So, I don't want to hear anything about statistics. And when I'm finished here, I'm finished with this subject. I do believe that the 2nd amendment is being misinterpreted by those of you that support the right to own a gun but since I'm not a constitutional lawyer, anything I believe is just that, a belief.

I ain't scared of nothin' and real men don't need no stinkin' gun for defense; of course at my age it doesn't really matter! I sleep so sound, deaf you know, (and a clear conscience!) that if anyone breaks in I just hope they don't disturb me, take what they want and leave quietly. I feel I'm more at risk in driving the Texas roads than of someone attacking me in my home. Then again if I irritate one of these cowboy drivers I might get shot. Road rage here is not unusual.

In the end I support all of you that believe in owning a gun. What I'm waiting for is someone to propose limiting the sale of ammunition! I do wonder why anyone needs an assault rifle when the Glock that Heron mentioned should do the job.

Somewhere along the line this thread should draw Dave DeWinter out.

How did I do, gun control folks, do you think I'm going to get shot at for presenting your side?

I was shot twice by robbers: 1974 in brasil took a .22 in the chin, 1991 in Fort Lauderdale broad day light, 11 am in front Lauderhil Mall by a smoked up Jamaican
I love guns , have some, lots of books and hunting weapons.
The only way to control is starting for those who listen and have brains to understand.
I wish the survey showed what happened in those cities. Accidents, how many bad guys shot etc.
An armed society is an uneducated one, china has some samples of both situations.
Men are croocked, some are not.
Send some of our gun toting down to Rio and see what happens . . .
Maybe one day we can hunt again and own guns just for their beauty.

Here in Kansas city Kansas, at the time the assault weapon ban was proposed, we had only had one homicide by assault rifle in the past 10 years. During that time, we had two homicides where the weapon was a large rock. I suggested that we should ban rocks rather than assault rifles. However, since Clintin told everyone how good the assault weapons were, the SKS and AK47 have become the favorite drive by weapons.

Yes Chuck I did vote in that poll to let the ban die.
I would be very afraid to live in a society that did not trust it's own citizens and where the government and criminals are the only ones with guns of any type.
There's a joke out there somewhere where an old man and woman were in the kitchen after just finishing having supper. The woman at the sink washing the dishes noticed someone with a flashlight in the man's tool shed.
She tells her husband who in turn picks up the phone and calls the police.
The answer from the police was they were tied up with other business and would be there in about an hour.
The old man says okay and hangs up. He waits 5 minutes and calls the police and tells the dispatcher to take their time, there's no rush because he just shot the thief dead. Not a minute later a dozen cars show up at his tool shed and arrest the thief.
The policeman said "I thought you said you shot the thief?" The old man said I thought you said you couldn't get here for an hour?"

There is a moral in that joke that police can not be every where all at once.
Law abiding citizens should not have their guns taken. Enforce the laws that are on the books today and there would be no gun crime.
A pencil does not misspell a word no more than a gun goes off by itself.

Why do you believe what you believe ?

Before the ban on the sale of ephedra you would have thought that this natural herb was a real killer. The fact was that less that 50 people who ABUSED it overdosed on it in use with other drugs in an attempt to get high. Sure enough the only real weight loss enhancer got trashed along with our right to use it. Facts be known more people died or had to get medical attention for the use of otc drugs or even basic asprin (asprin was like 200). Facts are ephedra worked great for weight loss and also acted as an antihistamine, and bronchilliator (make it easier to breathe)....

What does this have to do with a gun thread ?

Well I will tell you that ignorant people and polticians with an adgenda are the most dangerous animals on the planet. Go to the book store, or public library and do your research. After about 3 days of research you will come to understand the history of guns, the statistics on both sides of the issue. While there are only 1 set of stats that are not canned or spun you will find many truths.

Just ask yourself this 1 question. How safe would you feel in jail ?

Many would say, "are you crazy there are bad dudes in there".....

So go ahead and spend an evening in the lockup. There are bars on the windows and really colorful characters that cant wait to meet YOU.

SO my thought is this. If you would not want to be bunking with these guys in the big house, why would you want to be hanging with them on the outside where there are no bars or corrections officers ?

I know it might seem too simple but if you do the research, meet and greet some inmates at your local lockup your eyes will be opened so wide you will need a new pair of dark sunglasses.

Guns do a lot of things. They keep good people safe.

keep your powder dry.

Gotta check that site out!

We've been flying Mike's new Bensen, and doing a little work on it. I think he's been enjoying it more and more as he gets more comfortable with it. We'll probably change out the rotorhead bearing this afternoon. If the weather cooperates, we'll have to do more test flying. :)

Oh . . .I tought we are talking about assault weapons in an attempt to curb the bad guys from having more fire power that the good guys . . .my bad!
And I did not read the law but it must have provisions for gun collectors and for gun shows as well. If it is a good law that is . . .
I do not see my old Anschultz been banned, its is a burden just to transport it and all the heavy case to the range, let alone use it as side arm. But I can change the collor of your eye from 500 feet.
I should not have to worry about some crazy m.f. carrying and willing to use it to get my stuff for his profit.Hand combat I can take care of my self.
My Colt and my SW .32 can do as much damage as any other gun in my hands, the bullet will find its target.
It seems to me that big guns have a falic appeal to the insecure . . .
I had to use my nunchaku once to control a crowd in a game, the police officer came about 2 minutes late, gun in hand, lost his cap and behind me saying: Are you crazy?
nobody was touched in my crew. Respect that what is needed.
