Greetings,

Can anyone tell me how to aquire a radiator that fits the mounting tabs on a stock 582 mount from Ernie?

I've read that it's from a VW Rabbit, but they've made that thing for ages, and with any number of different engines, so I'm sure they don't all have the same radiator. I'd need to know the year, engine, maybe body style (or lack thereof) to order an radiator.

I asked Ernie, and he said he buys them from Lockwood. I emailed Lockwood, and they said absolutely nothing (but it's only been a week...).

I guess I'll call Lockwood and see if they can help by phone. If not, maybe I can get the part number from Ernie. Just hoping someone will know off the top of their head.

Thanks,
Rusty (should have it ready to fly before the registration comes back from the FAA)

I went to a radiator repair shop and looked at their catalog. There are a number of different ones for rabbitss so I ordered one that had the 1 inch (i think) hose connections and was the lightest. I don't know what trough or tray Earnie uses or builds to install it but I know my Dominator chassis has tabs for the radiator that do not fit any one of 3 different rabbit radiators i have tried.

Hey, if I had a picture of the radiator, I'd post it :)

Hi John,

I've read that it was a Rabbit radiator, but you can't believe everything you read. No one has ever given enough specifics to find one that fits, so maybe it's not from a Rabbit at all.

Thanks for the comments.

Hi Mike,

For some reason, I didn't get the impression that Ernie was all that interested in selling bits and pieces like this. I could certainly be wrong about that though. I can't believe his markup on something like a radiator is worth the hassle to handle it, but I'll be happy to buy it from him if that's an option.

Cheers,
Rusty

Ask Ernie. I would bet he would sell it to you. He is not in business to take advantage of you, just to make a living. Shure would be easier to order from him and know it is right than guess. Support yor gyro folks!

Rusty,
If Ernie has one I can bring it back from Bensen Days to save on shipping. Unless you need it quicker. If he doesn't sell bits and pieces tell him it's a "replacement" radiator.

Thanks for the offer Tim, but no need to worry about doing that. I've got another message into Ernie about this, and will work it out one way or the other.

Rusty, or anyone else who is looking,
I happen to have two of those radiators if you can't get one from Ernie. One is a used one off my Dominator/Rotax 618 engine, which has been parted out. The other is new in the box that was part of my Helicycle kit-never used since they went to turbine power. I believe its the same Rabbit radiator.
