Ok Guys, I've bought the new tires. I jacked up the gyro and removed one of the tire/hub assemblies. Now I have one question.
HOW THE HECK DO I GET THE OLD TIRE OFF THE RIM????
The RAF uses split rims. I removed the bolts holding the rim together and I still cannot get the old tire off the rim. I can't even get the split rim apart. I had two 260 lb guys standing on the tire trying to pull it off the rim and no luck.
Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks.

You might try a golfcart service shop.

split rims you might try loosening the nuts but do not take the nuts off the bolts then inflate the tire a little maybe this will spred the two halfs. if not while you still have the bolts loose and its still inflated bounce the tire by hand on the cement rubber only not the flat where the rim is exposed. if that don't work deflate and try bouncing again.

Leave the rims bolted together, spray soapy water on the edge of the tire and rim, then take 2 tire wrenches pry down on the bead letting the soapy stuff work its way down all the way around. Keep doing this until it breaks loose Repeat on the other side, once both sides are loose remove the bolts. Each tire takes about 15 min.

My hanger mate & I bought this small tire changer from Harbor Freight Tools.
We use it to break the beads of our tires, she has a Long Eze.

The bead of the tire sticks to the rim,,put it in a vice and squeeze the tire just below the rim, untill the bead comes loose. Don't put air in it, that could be dangerous.

I second Steves method. Those can act like they are glued on sometimes.

Guys:
Thanks for all your help. I've caught a bit of a bug right now but as soon as I get back to the hanger I'm going to give it the old college try once again. I'll let you know how it goes.

My friend, I'd love to get together with you again. Had a great time at Frasca last year. That has been my longest cross country in the gyro to date.
I have to agree with you that flying these incredible machines is the best kept secret in aviation. I've been flying fixed wings since I was 17 and there is nothing in the world like flying a gyro!! I hope to do a lot of flying this year.
I know there are a few fly-ins up here in this area. As soon as I get a schedule I'll send you a copy. The more gyros that show up at these events the better.

Definately, Don't put air in unbolted split rims! Some pretty ugly accidents have happened using air to seperate rims. Soapy water and patience will work.
