Okay a new thread to update everyone on my progress. I spent several hours yesterday and today working on my gyro. This is a short list of things I have done this weekend.
1. Installed the exhaust manifold.
2. Installed the block off plate for the oil injection pump I took off
3. Installed the carbs
4. Filled the gearbox up with gear oil and saftey wired the nuts and screws
5. Installed the Pre rotator drive unit on the engine
6. Made tabs and spring system for pre rotator idler wheel return - installed it
7. Installed handle and cable for pre rotator. Trimmed excess cable & housing
8. Installed Radiator
9. Installed temporarly the rotorhead assembly
10. Filled and sloshed the fuel tank then drained to clear trash or debris
11. Drilled and installed the hardware for the front shimmy dampener
12. Removed dashboard for instrument installation - once I pick them out..
13. Bought and tried to install brakes I bought today - nothing fits too small
14. Painted assembled and installed airspeed ground handling tube
15. Painted the Hydo Pre rotator Fluid tank
16. Painted the inside of the pod Flat Black
17. Painted the Prop Crush plate
18. Installed the Prop leading edge protective tape
19. Trial fit pre rotator hoses and not sure if I got the routing right
20. Replace Grade 8 for AN hardware where rudder cables attach to the tail
21. Reverse hardware on rudder pedals so Nuts will be visable from top
22. Fabricated painted and installed Cargo tray under the engine
I am sure I forgot some stuff. Some of the items were easy - like installing the radiator - and some things were a pain in the butt such as everything to do with the pre rotator so far.
Of course I spent several hours Saturday morning trying to find bolts to hold on the prop. Not found at Lowes or Home depot but in stock at Ace Hardware!!! Also had to get bolts to use to install the pre rotator onto the gearbox and several other nuts and bolts. Had to get paint, MEK, steel radiator straps to clamp on the hydro fluid tank to the mast, and several other items..
Still trying to decide on instruments and trying to decide what I am going to do to get the paint job done.
It is tempting to slap the oil injection back on and go ahead and install lights, back up fuel pumps, electric start, a alarm system, horn, Cd player and flip up DVD with Sony Playstation, etc.. etc... But I keep reminding myself this is to be a fun ship for local flights or shorter cross countrys and I want the power to weight to be as good as possible for playing around. So I am leaving all the un needed stuff off for now. All that stuff can be added on later If I feel a need for it. So heres some pics :)
