I pulled off the oil injection pump off the engine on the gyro I am building. The pump is brand new, never been hooked up and has the gear and hoses etc... I will take 50$ plus shipping. The engine it was bolted to was a Blue head 582 so you might want to check to see if it will fit the older grey heads as well. I would think it would.

I've had people tell me to take the oil injection off my Rotax also but I have not done it. They say it could fail causing immediate frying of the engine.
I agree with you Steven that the engine will run better with it because of the variable ratios needed as rpm increases.
If we eliminate everything that MIGHT fail on our gyros there would not be much left.

Yes I agree with your points Steve. Totally. BUT, these pumps can and have failed before, there is alot of things that can go wrong with them, if the cable breaks it goes to the leanest setting, if the lines break then you get no oil or worse Air finds its way into the engine causeing a lean fuel mixture, and dumbest of all you could forget to fill the tank with oil and run the engine till it starves of oil and stops - happened at my airport a few weeks ago to a Rans S-6 driver....
As for pre mixing the gas, that is no problem for me. I pre mix gas each week for my lawn equipment and for the Phantom ultralight. One pint of oil per 6 gallons of gas and it is done. 8 oz per 3 gallons and it is done. Etc... Etc... And the engine is not at idle for long if you think about it and I don't think there will be much of a problem running 50-1 at idle instead of the 100-1 or 70-1 or whatever the pump allows.
I see the pump system as one thing and that is to make it easier for the user to just pour oil into one tank and gas in the other. I don't think it is on there because it is a better way to introduce oil to the engine than pre mix. It just makes using this engine easier. I don't want to weigh down or over complicate this gyro, adding the oil tank, lines, filters, cables and splitter, etc... it just more weight and costs than I want to deal with.
I am going to withdraw the pump from the for sale market and just keep it incase I later decide to add it or if I sell the gyro and the next guy wants to use it.

Ron, ask any Rotax repair center, there are far more engine failures caused by owner poor oil mixing(or not remixing after sitting) than by the very rare pump failure. It is just like flying mistakes/crashes. Many more are caused a human pilot error than a mechanical reason. I make mistakes all the time, my 582 oil pump has yet to do so.

Part of this decision should also account for how often you fly cross-country. If you'll be landing and fueling at airports, you'll have to pre-mix portions of a tank of fuel. This may be the best opportunity for most pilots to make a mistake on the ratio.
