The pics I have are from SnF 06, and it didn't have the rotor yet -- it quasi-jumped based only on depitching the prop to give the bulk of the energy to the prerotator.

cheers

Look at some picture through the 2006 archive http://www.cartercopters.com/weekly_update_archive_2006_1.html

To understand the principle go through the rotor/propeller patents for variable pitch blades as on page http://www.cartercopters.com/propeller_system.html

Try this site if you want to make a JTO gyro. it seems to be in Italy so you shouldn't have any problems talking to him.

Thanks I've spoken with the guy who designed the head, and infact he gave me very good informations
by the way here you can find the link to the helicopter he built, it's very coool!

It looks nice, does he intend to market this helicopter?

Mike,
Hi. This head (with its swash plate) was designed for a helicopter. If you want a swash plate head on a gyro, be my guest. It's not what I'd use. What the gyro community needs is a simple teetering head (as used in all standard gyros) which incorporates cyclic pitch control. THAT would be something worth getting excited about...

I'd like to eventually see the Carter demonstrator head being used on more gyros. Looks like the perfect JTO arrangement. Does anybody know if the Carter group will ever be releasing a version of the rotor head to be available to the general gyro community? Since it works on the butterfly (modified though it may be), I'm sure that type of rotor head could be attached to most other gyros in the future. That head plus the strut that they devised would make a near perfect combination on a gyro....
Just my 2 cents...

Hi,
Why don't you contact Carter Copter and ask them?

Carter won't "sell" any products, they are a technology developement company, I am sure that someone could buy thier copyright or whatever to start maunfacturing it.
Same with the propeller, that is a critcal part of the jump takeoff, not just the head and drive unit.

scottessex,

If Carter won't sell any products where does its funding come from?

Financiers, private or public, want some type of return on their investments. Is Carter currently receiving royalties from any of its patents?

They sell thier technology, someone can "buy" the jump rotorhead/prop patent and start producing it.
You'd have to look it up but I think they are listed on the stock market.
