View Full Version : 912S Water Cooling system?

I have a question I hope some 912 engine owners (or other smart people) can answer for me.

Background:

The water cooling system on the 912S engine runs 4 hoses from the water pump to the bottom of each cylinder head (2 on each side of the engine). Then the water runs up through the heads and 4 hoses then run from the top of each head to the expansion tank sitting on top of the engine.

Modification:

To get the hoses to clear the motor mount and exhaust pipes I made a change. On the left side of the engine I switched the hoses so the one from the top of the water pump runs to the #1 cylinder (rather than the #3 cylinder) and the one from the bottom runs to the #3 cylinder (rather than the #1 cylinder). On the right side of the engine I did the same switching the hoses so the one from the top of the water pump runs to the #2 cylinder (rather than the #4 cylinder) and the one from the bottom runs to the #4 cylinder (rather than the #2 cylinder).

Question:

Will this cause any problems?

Thanks.

No Idea Ken, Call Tech Support.

It may be a problem since engine's designers probably kept in mind difference in temperatures of lower and upper parts of each cylinder (though they probably not).
In any case there may be at least one apparent problem: dealer will cancel warranty if you won't get his written permission for this upgrade.
When I installed 912S in Doomin I was forced to bend two of these hoses which come from the pump.(same reason - to clear motor mount). I asked local dealer about this, we discussed (fruitful) the thing and they agreed this doesn't affect anything. Anyway - served the decencies.

Ken J.,

Thanks for your confirmation. That's exactly what I thought, but I wasn't sure.

Glad to be of help. Don't hesitate to ask me again if you run into any problems.

Chris,

I finally got an answer from tech support (CPS - where I bought the engine). They said it would not cause any problem. Thanks.

So, if any 912S owners have the same problem I had, then switching the hose lines will solve it.
