I need the following items....
1. I need a 3 inch airspeed indicator and a matching altimeter. Will certainly consider a smaller size but would like a matching set in perfect condition
2. I need the following instruments all the same size and preferably the same brand or look, Dual EGT... Dual CHT.... RPM.... Water Temp And I would also like to get a rotortach.
3. I need a Expansion tank and filler cap for the cooling system on a Rotax 582 - 1 inch size hose fittings - Lockwood wants 175 bucks for a new one  They must be smoking something right?!
4. I also need ideas on how to go from a 1 inch radiator hose to a 1 and 1/2 inch fitting on the radiator - the radiator inlet and outlet is the only thing that size everything else is 1 inch.
5. I need a throttle quadrant. new ones aren't that expensive but I thought I would see if anyone has one laying around they want to sell at a good price.

Ron check out this webpage. I bought this for my engine. It works great. 1" fittings. Cheap price. Also buy the adel clamp they list and the other link is for a nice stainless clamp for Weldon fuel pumps that works great to mount the coolant tank.

I guess you don't really need the Adel clamp but it's nice to have

Don't know how you feel about digital instruments but I love em. Here is another link. They are a bargain if you ask me.

Ron,
If I were to build another one, I'd look at these two options:
1. EIS - $473 w/ all the probes etc.
2. Gear tooth pulse adapter for EIS $60 - Rotor Tach will display on EIS
Standard EIS (http://hometown.aol.com/enginfosys/stdeis.htm)
3. Stratomaster Smart Single Altimeter Alt-1 $206
4. Stratomaster Smart Single Airspeed Indicator ASI-1 $181
Smart Singles (http://www.sportflyingshop.com/Instr/Stratomaster/SmartSingles/smartsingles.html)
Total Instruments - $920
Or
How about the Skydat GX-1 which will do everything except rotor tach for $1,053 or the bigger GX-2 for $1,153
Skydat GX1-2 (http://www.sportflyingshop.com/Instr/Skydat_GX1/skydat_gx1.html)

I do believe that is what is in the Sparrow Hawk  Ron Look at the hoses on Chuck's gyro. He has adapters on a few hoses.

Todd I have looked at it and given it alot of thought - ok about 2 minutes worth - And think I want to go with the EIS with rotortach built in. Does anyone have any experience using the EIS as a Rotor tach???
I also looked at the smart stratomaster instruments. they have a two in one that has Airspeed and Altitmeter in one unit for about 100 less than buying the two separate. I think I might go that way to free up room on the dash for a ashtray or something....
Russ I haven't looked for pics of Chucks machine yet, you got any?

Yes I do have a set of pics I sent to Dave DeWinter during his Dominator build. I have now changed computers so I will need to see if I cant pull the pics off the old one. Unless Dave still has them. Russ

Ron,
I have the interface for the rotor tach to my EIS, it works great. I also just recently installed the 2 in 1 ASX-1 from stratomaster. It works very well and I like it alot. The only advantage of going the other way is the dedicated Altimeter also has a VSI built into it. If you buy both instruments, spending and extra $100 you also get VSI functions. I'll take a picture of the EIS w/ the Stratomaster Single next time I'm at the airport.

I just saw that the stratomaster instruments are all the smaller 21/4 inch size. I thought they were bigger. How small does it look on your dash Todd?

I'll take a picture this weekend and post it.

Ron,
I have the EIS with the rotor tach, altimiter and vsi. I'm very happy with it. We checked the rotor tach with an optical tachometer and it seems to be accurate. If you want to save panel space for an ashtray, the altimiter and vsi in the EIS seems to me to be the way to go.

Thanks guys. Keep the ideas coming. Ken I am with you, I prefer analog instruments, but the EIS is a space saver and is about the same price as all the round instruments. Ernie quoted me 175$ for a stand along rotor tach today, so when I factor that in the EIS is cheaper way to go.... I like Cheap.... Cheap is my middle name....

Ron,
You cheap that is the understatement of the year. I thought your middle name is tight. lol

Cheap.. Tight... It is all the same. I am not ashamed.
And I thought your middle name was "for sale"...
I had the same problem you have with radiator hoses. Today I spent some time digging through the NAPA store radiator hose storage. I found what I needed. I found one hose that had a 1 1/4" ID on one side and then it narrows down to 1". It also had a 45 degree angle, which was exactly what I needed (I installed my radiator at 45 degrees...)
Then I found another 1" hose that goes down from the engine to the radiator. I will cut and connect the two hoses with straight plastic barbs, which I have yet to find.
I think my gyro will come to life next week… :D

Ron,
Here is the picture of my dash with the Smart Single ASX-1.
On my EIS the layout is:
Tach CHT EGT
WATER TIME AUX (Rotor Tach)

The Rotor Tach is showing 12 right now. It always shows something when the blades are idle but seems to work fine when the blades start moving. I think if the blades are rocking back and forth just a little, its still picking up gear tooth movement. You can see the numbers on the Smart Single are as large, if not a little larger than the EIS.

Todd I am ordering instruments tomorrow I think.... I like the Smart instrument you put me onto. I might go ahead and get one. Not totally sure yet. I do like your panel. Mine will suck compaired to it. Mine is a piece of wood not fiberglass. And I will have less switches and buttons. Ken J wouldn't want nothing to do with it!
