http://www.cartercopters.com/ has some video's of their latest tests with jump take offs. They sure look quite controlled. There is more to this than just an excellent test pilot.

Am I the only one so impressed?

Yes, It is impressive. We've been discussing those videos in several different threads recently. Here's some of those threads. Hopefully that technology will find it's way to the civilian market.

Tim,

Thanks you for the list of threads. I missed a couple of those.

I still remember some of the design bottlenecks that Craig Wall identified re. Jay's Carter approach even if the rotor design would not be an issue. One of them was the durability of the prerotator. The prerotation mechanisms of the first CCTD sure did not convince. Of course, this one is running a smaller engine and all, but still I am amazed. Even with conventional rotors and no JTO ambitions, this would be a winner, wouldn't it? What would be the disadvantages that I overlook?

I saw this little bird at Oshkosh this past summer. However, it was just a static display and I only took two pics of it. Would have been fun to see it fly!

Carter Aviation flew that one at several locations on it's way to Sun-n-Fun last spring without the new type rotor. It's a shame they didn't make a stop at Bensen Days.

Unfortunately they seem more interested in wowing the public than us gyroheads.
